I saw the 'pinos doing this when I was stationed there. The flogs they use on themselves have little fishhook-type barbs on them, and are often dipped in vinegar before being used. They consider themselves to be pretty serious Catholics, although the Vatican frowns on their practices.
Not sure what this has to do w/ Roger_the_1/16th, though.

Well, let's just say that 15 of the 16ths are looking forward to a big, bloody weekend.
I haven't worn an XXXXL hairshirt in MONTHS, you ASS.

Apr. 5 - Filipino Catholics reenact the passion of Jesus Christ.
Catholics in the streets of the Philippines reenacted Jesus' last hours of suffering before his death.
Some carried crosses on their backs whilst others whipped themselves and drew blood in order to purge their sins.
On Friday, the events will reach their climax on a day known as Black Friday, where devotees will crucify themselves. The event usually attracts crowds of locals and foreign visitors to the town of Cutud.
The cross carrying relay race looks like fun. The self-flagellation not so much.
