Will Shields announces his retirement

What in the fuck? I know he's like 13 years in but he's got a couple great years left. If I'm a team with a need at offensive guard and the team has a shot at the Super Bowl, I'm calling him today to try to work out a deal. Dude's a beast.

If he has officially "retired" doesn't he have to sit out the entire season? Or was he a free agent?

Rack Will Shields for a stellar 14 year NFL career that included 12 Pro Bowls. Dude was a great player on the field, but an even better person in the community. When Goodell wants to look for a shining example to show the thugs how to conduct themselves off the gridiron, he need look no further than Will Shields.
Next stop: Canton.
Btw, the Chiefs could be fucked this year. If Casey Wiegman also retires as he's reportedly contemplating, the O-line will be swiss cheese.
