The "Vision" thing has really slipped out of our hands.

"Whatever disagreements we might have had over how we got to this point in Iraq, the consequences of a failed state in Iraq, of chaos there, will adversely impact the security and prosperity of every nation in the Middle East and the Gulf region," he said.

"There may be some who, over resentment or disagreements over what happened in the past, might be cheering for failure. I would respectfully suggest that these sentiments are dangerously short-sighted and self-destructive," Gates added.
Now we're appealing to the nations that surround Iraq for help?

Did we solicit their advice and help when we started this thing?

Strange phrase to use, "dangerously short-sighted and self-destructive"...is he referring to his predecessor's approach in the middle east, or is the irony completely unintended?

It appears that we've failed to reach our goals in the region...at least the ones that have been stated to us, as Americans.

Now we're trying to tell them, "help us, or the chaos will engulf YOU FIRST"? Boy, I bet they'll be lining up with helpful hands...

Nah, they tried but they couldn't get them all together at the same time.
