How is Dan Hawkins ahead of anyone?

He's definitely playing to the DomerHater crowd with having Weis at #42.

All I had to do is read Sporting News and I knew it was a crap list catering to the Pac 10

seems to me it's the ACC that busts a nut. 3 of the top 6? 5 of top 15?

Yeah, I know it was Bielema’s first year, but 39th? I just gave the list a quick glance and I believe he’s 4-1 against the coaches listed above him.

Grobe is a sexy pick for having Wake Forest in a BCS bowl game, but #4?????

Yep. My thoughts exactly.

Fwiw, Weis is 5-5 vs. the seven coaches ranked ahead of him. Four of those coaches are ranked no lower than 18, and a few of them have had significant talent advantages over Weis.

My bad, Weis is actually 6-5 vs. 8 coaches ranked ahead of him (I forgot about the matchup vs. the Fat Man in '05). Also 6-2 vs. 6 coaches ranked 3-41, and 5-1 vs. 5 coaches ranked 17-41.

Urban should be higher, he has kicked indisputable ass at every program he has been at.

Mike Bellotti is too high, Oregon has had only one good year since Tedford left.

Grobe is a quality coach but #4? C'mon

Greg Schiano down at #33? wtf? He brought freaking Rutgers into quality program status.

Ya Hawkins had a bad year at CU but he was the guy that built the team that went undefeated and beat OU.

Brian Kelly from Cinci at #36? Who the hell is that?

Callahan at 21 is pretty generous.

How is Kelly ahead of freaking Brett Bielema? Wiscy will get a 10-championship under his watch.

Weis down at #42 is crap, he definitely needs a DC but dude can coach.

Joe Tiller is too high IMO, when was the last time Purdue did anything?

Johnson from Navy should definitely be listed. Dude is using 1AA-talent and winning.

As I read it, they were ranking coaches of "BCS teams," i.e., coaches of teams in the BCS conferences and Notre Dame. Navy doesn't meet those requirements. But you're right, he's a damn good coach.

i was kind of waiting for this one. all he's done is win a NC (only Fulmer is lower, i think).....another BCS bowl at friggin' Utah (albeit against a a pretty average Pitt team). but still, as we used to say, scobode.

On the Big XII tip, Ron Prince and Mike Gundy so low are surprising. Prince may have issues and be an asshole who no one wants to work for....but he did take a moribund KSU team to a bowl game. I get the feeling if Coach X took a projected last in the division to a bowl game in the ACC, homey is in the top half at least. and Gundy did same *in the Big XII south*, beat Nebraska like a drum. ATM needed a miracle catch from Martellus Bennett to win in Stillwater, and had one play to beat OU. went to a bowl game after a terrible year before last.

Both are in the bottom third. now, cheesebag OOC schedules are also in the mix for "6" wins.

and Dantonio hasn't EVEN coached a BCS game. look where he is.

and: obligatory.....Lloyd Carr?

Urban should be higher. I hate the guy, but he has done well at every stop. Paterno is way too high. Does he even coach anymore?

My bad, I shoulda noticed only BCS-teams were on this, otherwise you'd also have to throw guys like Gary Patterson from TCU and Pederson from Boise in there as well.
