The event was the National Conference of Black Mayors.

Obama was the only candidate sounding the Personal Responsibility note.

NPR is more even-handed than you might imagine, at least with National and International news. My problem with it is this...it's supposedly a news show, yet 12 minutes into the hour they're always into the "interest" stories...and that's where they get unacceptably mushy.

Nothing new here. Obama is also known for making speeches to the black community where he says (essentially): "I look forward to the day when a black child carrying a book is not teased for 'acting white'."

Why wouldn't he say it?

It's not like anybody is going to hold him to account for it

mushy emoting by hosts reaches it's maximum mush when discussing raises in gourmet coffee prices.
