You don't have to wear a collared shirt(as far as I know), but you'll want to. And some sort of dress/hiking/something-besides-cutoofs...you know, like with some sort of hem.

I'm sure flipflops will be fine.

Drink heavily before you go, since beers will probably be expensive there. They will HOOK YOU UP on the grub though, I'm sure. You can pretty much get away with being as wasted as you want, just so long as you don't make noise or bother anyone.

When I went to the Tradition in the ungodly heat last year, I burned one in the middle of the fairway...and that's a Major. They're not too uptight at golf tournies, or not around here anyway. I would recommend against giving players waiting on the tee tips on how to drive the ball...sometimes they don't have a good sense of humor in the heat of battle(but I'll probably do it again anyway -- the guy I was giving unsolicited advice to came from behind starting about then, and won the tourney...undoubtedly due to my outstanding advice).


Golf tournaments are a hoot. You'll have a good time. They give away all sorts of promotional trinkets, too.

Smuggle a pint of booze in.

Make sure to scream "IT'S IN THE HOLE" whenever anyone tees off on a par 5.


Oh...and get some pics of Patsy's boobs.

As far as my golf tourney behaviors -- I offended no one. That is not how I roll. Couldn't have been too obnoxious, since I was making time with many of the 30-something hotties there...because that IS how I roll.

High handicappers with a brain would have pulled an 8 iron and choked down a little.

Dinsdale would have hit a sand wedge and blown it over the green.

I'm sure what O'Hair meant to do was take a little off his 9 iron. But now he knows that in that kind of a pressure situation, he's better off realizing how amped up he was and hitting the wedge. It was a very expensive lesson. Even Butch Harmon doesn't charge that much.

I would have taken just a wee bit off my Armour PW, which Q tells me is 45 degrees. Hopefully would get enough bite to keep it on the green.

I'm far, far from a pro -- but even at my skill level, I have a pretty good idea how far each of my clubs goes, if properly struck. That part of the game isn't rocket science.


85 degree wedge, eh? Ken could use that for 3 foot putts. Highest one I own is a 64, and that doesn't live in the bag, but in the garage. Been practicing with my 60* -- flag sticks will come to fear me.

I'm not sad to say that I played this weekend and had not one coon. Shot 45-40-85. Bogeyed the last hole to keep out of the 30s on the back. Pissed me off.

Front 9 tee shots ate my lunch. Scored 2 triples on the front with OB tee shots. Fuckshit. Missed some easily makable 5 footers to save par after nice chip shots.

I hate to admit my "fix" fro my chipping. Our PGA Pro at the club suggested a couple weeks ago I do this one thing. On the backswing say to myself "Trains" and on the follow through say "And Airplanes". Shit if that didn't get my mind off the cooning. I had some bad chips the past few weeks, but I felt my left elbow yipping straight up. I went to the chipping green and hit about 200 chips doing the "Trains and Airplanes" bit working on that left elbow.

I guarantee I will be in the 70s regularly soon with a BAD round being 85. Can't wait.

Oh, 135 with no breeze? That would be my gunmetal Cleveland 53* wedge. PW I'd have to lay off and that would bring the possibility of "chunk" into play. 53* wedge would be just right.

Full swing my 53 is right at 135. If playing that hole, I'd hit the 53 and probably aim 10 feet left of the pin. Where that pin was tucked, I probably wouldn't go right at it. Even with a PW, I'd still aim left should I chunk it.

are you sure you wouldn't aim it 11 feet left?

damn dude, the best golfers in the world don't even attempt 53 degree wedge shots on that hole from 135....they were primarily using PW's.....and other than O'Hair, I didn't see anybody taking that kind of aim at that pin placement.....the margin for error is so minute it's just no worth it.......shoot to the middle of the green and walk away smiling with a par....

given that balls don't fly nearly as far at sea level as they do at 750 to 1,000 feet above sea level, coupled with the fact that a shot over water will not fly as far as a shot over land, I'm guessing that if you hit a 53 wedge on that hole, you'd probably be hitting your second shot from the drop zone......

I know of what I speak, having hit this shot a number of times.....

Which is one of many reasons why I'm not one of them.

I grew up playing at sea level. I know my distances. I play Hilton Head every year and my distances don't change much at all. Maybe PW is the right club. I'd be willing to try the 53 and see what it looked like. All depends on the conditions.

Exactly. Although the club selection was stupid, the strategy behind it was sound. O'Turtle knew he needed a bird, which was a bummer to have to try and pull off on 17 and 18.

If it were me playing a lazy-day round there(we can dream, can't we?), I'm pretty sure I'd be trying to stick it safely in the middle of the green, regardless of pin placement. Then I'd wish upon a star for a two-putt, which didn't look to be a given on that green. But that front right sunday pin is just brutal.
