I am fat and old but next week I will be hauling a 45 lb back pack up and down moutains of the Appalacian Trail in s.w. Virginia. This after less than 4 months post major back surgery.
I faught hard to rebound from my surgery and am living the creedo " get busy livin or get busy dying"

BTW, we have some coaches now and we are mad as hell.

Congrats to you, but if you want to enjoy the great outdoors I would highly recommend ditching the "ruffin" it side of it score a few amenities.

Good luck and props on your fast recovery. Some advice, make sure you have the best shoes possible, nothing worse than wet, decomposing feet as your hiking. Also, get folks to mail you care packages for you to pick up along the trail, they come in handy. Finally, some of those small towns will treat you well. Take advantage of the hospitality. Again, good luck.
