Three Arrested After Trinidad Party Turns Violent

TRINIDAD, Colo. -- Authorities in the Trinidad said three suspects in a fatal stabbing surrendered Sunday.
Police said Jason Philips, 27, was stabbed to death early Saturday in a dispute following an arm-wrestling match during a party at the victim's home.
Witnesses said that Noah Martinez, 21, stabbed Phillips. They said his cousin, Jaco Martinez, 26, also stabbed party goers. Both men had crashed the party, according to witnesses.
The two men were booked for investigation of first-degree murder. The juvenile girl, identified as a girlfriend of one of the two, was taken a juvenile detention center in Colorado Springs.
Two other people at the party, Jason Duvall, 25, and Jason Shrout, 29, was also stabbed. Both were listed in stable condition.

Victim Airlifted to Area Hospital

MORRISON, Colo. -- The West Metro Fire Department was called out after a man was bitten by a rattlesnake Sunday afternoon 1 mile north of Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
West Metro said the man was hiking with a female companion on the Red Rocks Trailhead, leaving from the north parking lot.
The victim was bitten one-half mile from the trailhead.
Firefighters hiked in and brought him back to the parking lot.
Flight for Life was called to the parking lot and the patient was airlifted to St. Anthony Central for treatment.
His name was not released

CRAIG, Colo. -- Three men who died when their vehicle plunged 125 feet off a cliff had blood-alcohol levels that were over the legal limit for driving, the Moffat County Coroner has revealed.
The men died when a Jeep Cherokee drove off a scenic road above the Sandrocks Nature Trail at 1:40 a.m. on June 1.
Autopsies conducted Sunday found each man's blood-alcohol level was above the 0.08 legal limit for driving, Coroner Owen Grant said. A toxicology report did not reveal any other substances besides alcohol in the men's systems.
Police identified the victims as Waylon William Owens-Plantiko, 28, David Kim Johnston, 32, and Jaron Earl Green, 31, all of Craig. They were buried last week.
Initial findings indicated that Owens-Plantiko was probably driving at the time, according to Police Chief Walt Vanatta. Vanatta said earlier there was no indication of the vehicle was traveling fast or erratically as it approached the cliff.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- Greenwood Village police arrested Denver Nugget reserve forward DerMarr Johnson early Saturday after he resisted arrest and interfered with police, authorities said.
Johnson and two women were encountered outside the Purple Martini nightclub about 1:30 a.m., said police spokeswoman Candy Valdez. Apparently, Johnson, his brother and another group that included Nuggets guard Allen Iverson were outside the nightclub when a fight broke out, police said.
Police officers were next door at Cool River Cafe at the time. When they arrived at the nightclub, they said Johnson pushed an officer. Valdez said police had to use a Taser on the 6-foot-9, 210-pound Johnson to calm him down.
The women also were arrested for disturbing the peace. One of the women was reported to be the mother of Johnson's child.
All three were booked and released after getting summonses.
Police said they actually went easy on Johnson by not charging him with felony assault of an officer.
"He was just involved in this disturbance and he wanted to keep talking to the people there, and he didn't want to listen to the police officer," said Lt. Randy Corbitt of the Greewood Police Department. "He was trying to get back to them and the officer didn't want him to go over there."
Dan Recht, a lawyer representing Johnson, said his arrest resulted from a misunderstanding. Recht released a statement to The Denver Post: "DerMarr was breaking up a fight between two women. There was a great deal of confusion and the police mistakenly believe he was interfering with them. However, we are confident when all the facts come out it will be clear that DerMarr is innocent and did nothing wrong."
No one was available at the Nuggets' office Saturday to comment.
