..by da Bears....didn't see that one coming

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (June 25) - Tank Johnson was released Monday by the Chicago Bears , who are "embarrassed" by the defensive tackle's legal troubles and say he "compromised the credibility" of the team.

Johnson was waived three days after he was pulled over by police in Arizona . He already had been suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 season for violating probation on a gun charge. He spent two months in jail and was released in May.

"We are upset and embarrassed by Tank's actions last week," general manager Jerry Angelo said in a statement. "He compromised the credibility of our organization. We made it clear to him that he had no room for error. Our goal was to help someone through a difficult period in his life, but the effort needs to come from both sides. It didn't, and we have decided to move on."

Police in the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert said Johnson was stopped for driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone at 3:30 a.m. Friday and the officer made observations that led him to believe Johnson was impaired.

Sgt. Andrew Duncan, a police spokesman, said Johnson was arrested for "DUI Impaired to the Slightest Degree" but was released without being booked or charged.

Duncan said Johnson was taken to the Gilbert police station, where officials drew blood for a blood-alcohol content test before his release. He described Johnson as "very cooperative."

Test results aren't expected for up to two weeks, and they would be sent to Gilbert town prosecutors for consideration of any charges.

Johnson had called his suspension an "opportunity for me to move forward." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had said the suspension could be reduced to six games if Johnson had no further involvement with law enforcement and underwent counseling.

"DUI Impaired to the Slightest Degree"
Looks to me like it serves as the standard misdemeanor level "Driving While Ability Impaired" that most states define as having a BAC between .04 and .079.

Even TVO or XXXKC should be able to get this tossed out, every time, assuming there was no accident.

Who wants to play for a team with this owner who's dying a slow, painful death? Not even the thugs will touch this one anymore.

Chargerdipfuck attempting to clown on another team's owner (especially one with multiple championships) is the height of utter hilarity.

The Snatch DisCharge owner makes Clipper owner Donald fucking Sterling look capable. The only owner on par with the pathetically inept Spanos is the one who resides in Arizona and could give 2 fucks about winning.

Nice Company there, Charger asshuffers.

This is such a huge, HUGE shocker.

I mean, how could the Bears have ever seen this coming...

When they drafted a Husky?

Why is Charger nation of all idiots playing the character card?

Would a DUI keep Tank from suiting up for the Dolts, or would you prefer your defensive players to get gunned down by off duty cops instead?
The Chargers don't hang on to the bad characters guys. The Raiders have a rep for going after the bad characters, blatantly.

A little comedy from the Raider Nation opinion about signing Tank:

The Bears released the guy,

Okay he was stopped speeding and with two or three beers...how manny of us could be pulled over like that...I SAY SIGN THE GUY

He ain't in Pacman's class. He's still worthy of a second chance.. or third.. We need that beef in the middle of our d-line next to Sands, even in week 9. Hawthorne doesn't look like he's rotation material.. Eye on the prize..

Woah I had no idea they released Tank Johnson!! He is a good player but has he learned his lesson? If we sign him I hope so.

Oh please, every time i drive i have a couple beers in me. The cop described him as very cooperative, and he didn't even get charged with a DUI. pacmans teammates talk about him as hard headed, never heard one bad thing about tank from his teammates, in fact, only good things. This guy could help us out, even if he wont be playing for 8 games, hes a great football player. SIGN him! We could definitely use a Tank to clog up the middle. Realistically though, i don't think were gonna sign em

If his test proves he was legally drunk, then no he is not worth it. But if he tests negative, maybe. His speeding violation was for going 40 in a 25 zone, he was not racing down the street or freeway. Going 40 in a 25 is something many many people do on a daily basis, that should not weigh into whether he is worthy of signing.

would do it, i mean he is young and dumb...still on his rookie contract i believe and he is on the rise as far as play goes.

His list of wrong doing is a lot less than Pac Man. Yeah he had guns, but wasnt poppin them off like pac-man. last i heard its still in the constitution to own guns. Sure he had alot, but so what, that's what he does.

I wouldnt mind signing him 1 bit.

On one hand he is your "typical" Raider from the past that is in trouble with the law and a team has given up on him.

However, none of our players have that sort of image these days so he'll interfere with that.

I say sign him. Massive boost to our team.

Being an ol' Raider Dawg, I've got no problems with what players do off the field. A lot of old Raider Greats weren't exactly poster children. It's part of the mystic of the Raiders, to give cast-offs a second-chance.

That list isn't totally up to date...it's missing Shaun Rogers being arrested for (allegedly) roughing up a stripper.

Who takes his spot as the starter on the first platoon? Adams or Dvorcek?

As Sooner I think it would be mighty cool for Oklahoma fans to see Tommie and Dusty side by side again...
