Any of you guys plan on buying NCAA 08?

It comes out on July 17. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I seem to look forward to it less and less every year. It does help feed that football jones this time of year, though. I am sticking with the PS2 for one more year. NCAA is literally the only game I play, so I can't really justify dropping $400-600 on a next gen system just to play one game, especially a game as frustrating as that one.
BTW, if any of you guys still play online, send me a friend request to M To Tha DUB. I played a few games against Shine and LK back in the day and used to play Shawn Marion fairly regularly, but I haven't seen any T1B people online in a long while. I'll probably be on for a while tonight actually, since I lead such an exciting life...

I haven't even seen what "new" things are in the game this year, so I am probably going to stay away from it.

You can get a PS3 with 20GB for $499 and 60GB for $599...still way too much money. The perk is getting a BlueRay player with it. XBox 360 is now coming with the HD DVD player capability...I see it's $650 right now. I'm trying to find a decent HD TV for $600-800...no way would fork over that much for a system when I can still play most of the games I like on my work laptop. When all of these things go down in price, I'll buy it then. The biggest downside of not going the console route is not being able to play college football or MLB games on the computer.

I relaized that I didn't buy the game last year, so I might go ahead an get '08. I would like to see how good a player Grothe (USF's QB) is on there.

i know exactly how ya feel Dub...i'm the same way.
I used to count down the days 4-5 yrs ago...now it's just 'eh'.
i played maybe 10 games online with 07 on the xbox 360.
i'll drop 60 bucks on this years game...but i doubt i spend 150-200games online like i used to with it.

This is really the only game I play and purchase.
I haven't gotten as discouraged as others by the recent releases of this game. Sure, there's a few changes with each release, but it's basically the same game we've been playing for years. For the things they continue to fuck up, they make up for it with some much needed improvements. Overall, I'm happy with 2007's game and still play it now and then.
The online play is what I've stepped back from. It's too time consuming to find someone who actually wants to play, and the "play fair" types are just so few and far between.
UNWAR subbing out your QB for your 95 speed WR and running the option out of the shotgun spread on every freaking down. Fuck that noise.
I stick season mode, and playing a buddy in "real life" occasionally. That's the most fun. We both play fair and the games are always tight, although he's slightly better than I.

Well, despite my limited expectations, i still took the day off this Tuesday and (with apologies to PSUFAN) I'll probably buy the game Monday night at midnight at Wal-Mart. I can justify taking the day off since i'll probably write a review of it for work.
Moby,
From what I've read, the 360 edition of the game is supposed to be greatly improved over last year's "stripped down" version. The 360 game is supposed to run at 60FPS, compared to 30FPS on the PS3.
Mgo,
What console do you play on? I hear you on the frustrations of playing the typical "East Room" or "Play Now" gamer, but if you're interested in a good community of online players who play realistic football, check out the forums here...

Read the threads on the SPA rules. I think you might find those rules a little more to your liking.
Edit: Didn't realize the SPA threads aren't stickied anymore. Here is a thread that explains the general gameplay rules that are considered "straight" football by a consensus of players at VG.

On Sunday, I joined Sam's Club and dropped 6 benjamins on 4 new tires.
The tire stores near me that are independently operated are nearly double the price. I concede

bought it today, filling out the rosters(mizzou) with actual names n shit. i hate seeing new record by rb22.
i tried to buy it yesterday at target, but their computers were down, so i said fuck it, ill wait another day. was last one on the shelf for regular xbox.

Hell yeah I'm buying it. There's a freaking Bronco on the cover. Said Bronco is going to be the third string QB for the second shittiest team in the League, right behind the Raiduhs.

I bought it. I am actually pretty impressed.
I still haven't started my dynasty, still naming and editing players. I don't generate names because I hate that crap but I want OU, most of the Big 12's top players (anyone with a real chance of making all confernce) named and edited before I do that.
Kind of like poker in the fact I don't like the Online play. I have a friend who comes over on Wed and Thir. nights to play in a dynasty with me using seperate teams in last years version and are going to continue that with this years. Good times for our daughters playing together while we play together.
I thought the "Legends" mode would be stupid as hell but in all honesty it has been the highlight of the game as yet. I really like the high school playoffs thing before you commit. I may just play it over and over when I am bored and too short on time to finish a real game (I play quarters at 8 minutes minumum so I can run an offense and not just have to throw the ball the entire game).

Adel & SunCoast,
I don't know how far along you guys are on naming your rosters, but you can actually download roster files online or mail in your memory card and have someone put them on there for you. They name all 1-A and 1-AA teams and usually the historic teams as well...
for Xbox or Xbox360

for PS2 or PS3

I enjoy doing it myself. There are attributes I like to "fix" both up and down on players...
They did do a poor job on the players correct numbers this year though :-(.

Are you talking about Campus Legend? I never tried it. I alway thought it'd be way too frustrating to not be able to actually call plays or control any other player. Then again, I haven't even played a dynasty since NCAA 06. I pretty much spend all of my time online or in practice mode. I think I might fire up a dynasty on this one just to play around with the recruiting and other coaching stuff. I'm sure they've added a lot of new stuff in the last couple years...

You have to create a new player and not use an existing player. I created myself.
It can get frustrating not calling the plays but it's still a crap load of fun.

Legendary mode. It's the new game mode other than dynasty where you controll a players college career.

Adel & SunCoast,
I'm guessing you guys are playing on different consoles. From what I've been reading, there are several significant differences between the current gen and next gen versions of the game.

no reason to run out and get a 360. i only buy the ncaa game and nhl. and a 360 is the least of my concerns. when they quit making games for the xbox ill buy a 360. not a need.

Dub,
Is the game worth it on PS2?
I don't have a PS3 so there's no chance in buying that version, but I was wholly unimpressed and just as frustrated with 07 as I was with 06. I always thought I would play video games, I can't believe I haven't fired up the PS2 in months. It could be maturity or old age, I guess. I don't feel old though, I just feel ripped off by EA Sports.

I give it a thumbs up so far. I've been having fun playing 08, which I don't know if I could ever say about 07. I like the running game a lot. It plays kind of like a cross between 06 & 07. Breakaway speed is back, so no more getting chased down from behind by slow DEs, but without all the crazy broken tackles from 06. Plus, they added that new auto-motion feature, so you can actually run a legit Flexbone offense if you're so inclined. Wingback sweeps actually work now.

Don't get a PS3 gaming!!!! If you are going to get the PS3 get it for the bells and whistles but not for gaming.
I read an interview with some of the game designers from EA Sports talking about just how superior the 360 is compared to the PS3 as far as actual gaming (which is why I would assume that most people would buy either system). Talked about how all of Ea Sports games are able to run at a higher speed on the 360 compared to the PS3. It's main selling point was the new NCAA 08 game and appearantly it runs at twice the speed on the 360 as compared to the PS3.

No offense to EA, but based on the last couple 3 or so NCAA games, their opinion means very little to me.

What does their performance designing games have to do with the machines ability to run them?
The 360 simply runs games faster than the PS3.

From what I've heard, there isn't a very discernible difference between the PS3 running at 30FPS and the 360 at 60FPS. What it really comes down to for me is gameplay, and from what I've read about the next gen game (both PS3 and 360) is that the graphics are phenomenal and the defensive AI is much better, but it's missing some of the fundamental basics that the current gen game has, such as the ability to change O-line blocking direction, quick audibles, and defensive hot routes.

Anyone on the 360 have any interest in splitting the cost of a memory unit w/ the rosters (40 w/ shipping)??? I don't even have the game yet but I figured this might be a nice addition as I usually only spend the time to update the tOSU and UM rosters.

Why is everyone so up in arms about the NCAA series? Maybe I'm just not a hardcore "gamer" like some of you, but I've had fun playing these games. Every edition that comes out has some flaws, but improves in other areas. But in general, the games have remained enjoyable. I don't expect NCAA Football, or any other sports game to be "authentic" or "life-like." It's a freaking video game, for chrissakes. Seems like people forget that sometimes.
