What Stadium Would You Wanna Host Games In?

So the stadium capacity thread that sparked Mgo’s “which stadium do you wanna visit” thread has now got me thinking about which stadium, as of late, gives its team the best home-field advantage.

Since I have a lot of spare time at work these days, I decided to do my best Shaz imppreshyn and crunch the numbers from 2000-2006 for all BCS conference teams (including Notre Dame, Boise State and Utah). So first list is: Overall Home Record & Home Record vs. Final AP Top 10 teams. Second list is: Home Record vs. Non-Conference Majors (including Notre Dame, BSU and Utah) & Home Record vs. Non-Conference Majors finishing in AP Top 10.

Obviously there are some what-have-yous here. Notre Dame’s record vs. Non-Conference teams is inflated since they don’t play in a conference. I just threw that in there to show the scheduling tendencies of conference teams. (Which by the way, shouldn’t turn this into a strength of schedule argument since this is only analyzing home games.)

Also there are some teams that have switched around conferences. So for instance, Miami’s win over FSU counts as a Non-Conf win in 2002 but not in 2004 after joining the ACC (in ’03). Another for instance, a win vs. South Florida in 2004 or before would not count as a Non-Conference Major victory since they didn't join the Big East until 2005. Yada yada yada… discuss.

Neither list does much justice for USC, and that's only because I included the '00 season in this analysis (Paul Hackett's final year). The Trojans were 2-5 at home that year but 34-2 at the Coliseum ever since Carroll took over (including five straight 6-0 seasons).

2000 was also John Cooper's last year at tOSU but he still managed to only lose two at home that year. Guess one of those two teams correctly and you get a free bowl of soup.

Michigan...I was at that game...we were up 9 to FUCKING nothing and wound up getting scorched for like 21 unanswered then made it close before Henson and company pulled away with the game...

I was at that one as well, _sc. Am I wrong or didn't Nate Clements take the opening kickoff down to the 1-yard line and we ended up fumbling or something? I saw Drew Henson many times at the Out 'R Inn after he joined up with the Columbus Clippers. Heard that he and Steve Bellisari were pretty close friends.

Lance I was sitting in south stands and the kickoff came to our end...it was a fake reverse and Nate took it pretty deep...we scored a TD...but missed the XP...then we get a turnover drive deep into scUM territory and can only get a FG out of it...that hurt...

I still maintain Anthony Thomas stepped out of bounds on the screen pass he took to the house...the screen by scUM has always been a huge weapon against tOSU...

i also remember that game was cold as fucking hell...but nonetheless still nice to get back to THE GAME...

I was there in 2004 when scUM had the better team and Troy was just coming into his own...fucking A...that Ginn punt return...woah...
and of course i was there last year for one of the best games I saw live...!

additionally, though perhaps ancillary to the point, the OU-Texas game is a non-factor....but very much a part of the overall schedule and games against ranked teams--at least since 00. UT may have been ranked in 99, can't remember.

I call BS. Colorado's ranking is artificially inflated since you're only counting home losses to non-conference majors. Factoring in home losses to 1-AA patsies would give you a much more accurate list.

The 7-4-1 plan ND has adopted figures to improve our home record, although I fear it will come at a cost.

Given that ND has 8 traditional opponents who are on the schedule most (although not all) of the time, in many years those traditional rivals will eat up all but one of the road/neutral games. Meanwhile, ND will have three home dates (at least) per year to fill.

The only way to accomplish that is to schedule, in most years, at least two bottom-feeders who won't be asking for a return trip from ND. Of course, given the ticket lottery ND uses for its alumni, ND may push a significant number of its alumni into those games. Over the long haul, it could diminish the fanbase's interest in getting to a game.
