I think he turned over a new leaf after his drinking and driving accident - he has claimed as much, and I guess I believe him.

Allow me to present you with a contrast:

http://pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburght ... 16850.html

The link describes for us an individual who has taken...a different approach.

The other night, this dude killed or injured 12 innocent folks on I-68 just outside of Morgantown, WV. It goes without saying that this accident was caused by his intoxication.

This unspeakably vile creature - 32 years old - has been arrested for DUI 9 fucking times, with 7 convictions since 1998.

Now, I've known a few folks who have been arrested for DUIs in recent years. In both cases, their lives have basically been wrecked. They have had to deal with a landslide of consequences - not that they haven't deserved them, mind you. Big fines, ARD classes, license suspensions, job interruptions, etc. They have struggled mightily with these consequences, and that's really as it should be.

No such problem for this guy. I think DUI arrests didn't really inconvenience this dude very much at all, if he was able to still be on the road in any capacity whatsoever.

I had a best friend killed by a drunk driver. I think if I was among the folks at this accident scene, helping clear wreckage, and drag corpses from the road, children and all, I doubt I'd be able to restrain myself from attacking the driver. I give the responders a hell of a lot of credit.

Darwin was a superstar in June - the matchbook-as-babysitter idea was clearly a big winner for him and the rest of the gene pool - but I guess he has been platooning with Satan in July. His failure to claim this driver's life in a freak shaving accident is quite troubling & disappointing.

The good question is why any state allows a driver to be licensed with that many DUI's.

Seven convictions? How much prison/jail time? I could see getting one and moving on with your life. Shit happens.

If you get a second, then you go into "one last chance mode." Seriously... there should be a law on the books... after your 3rd offense it's obvious you're a drunk who will only stop at nothing (or until you wreck/get pulled over) to get your drink on. I see nothing wrong with one year sentencing for every conviction starting with your 3rd. At some point, you become a habitual offender with absolutely nothing good to offer to society.

He's only 32 years old with 7 convictions and was actually not behind bars? That is pathetic.

I highly his license was legal. It's such a minor detail for a killer driving a lethal weapon around like anyways...

We just had a couple of beauts up here in God’s Country. Dude hit a pedestrian and drove 7 blocks home with the victim lodged in the windshield:

Then there’s the guy being charged with his 13th DUI:

13? IVO?

Seriously, that dude needs to be locked up, or better yet, Shot.

Who are we protecting? Him or us? Lock him away and drink until you forget where you put the key!

I think we ought to initiate a field sobriety test on ucant.

Remember when we stopped at the gas station and food mart in Morgantown where they had that Taco Bell inside? I'll bet it was that Steelers fan you were talking to that was working behind the counter.

Donnell Perry, 52, and his daughters, Jentil, 15, and Jacquesha, 13, all of Clarksburg, W.Va., were in that vehicle and died at the scene, authorities said.
Pray for them.

In LA, he would have done home arrest. But only if he paid $1000 in campaign contributions.

Most people don't have tolerance for that kind of shit. Most people aren't elected officials giving themselves and their buddies a pass through the law. The sad part is how many of those type of people are surrounded by enablers... like the dude around here who got caught, again, even after having one of those breathalyzers installed on his vehicle because his stupid girlfriend was letting him drive her car.

Meanwhile, Genarlow Wilson -- who didn't kill anybody, and whose 'victims' have spoken up in his defense -- is still in jail.

That's great. Why don't you start a new thread about it instead of trying to hijack this one.

While I'm usually opposed to governmental interference in people's lives/property, I'm thinking this whole idea of installing breathalyzers(they're called "ignition interlock devices") isn't such a bad idea...

In fact, it should be incorporated into a new licensing test by the DMV -- immedaitely after the installation of the ignition interlock, a potential licensee has to quickly down 8 beers. Then, the applicant is given one hour to get the car started.

If you're too fucking stupid to figure out how to bypass an ignition interlock(should take the average person about 90 seconds), then you're determined to be too fucking stupid to operate a motor vehicle whether sober or intoxicated, and are never allowed to drive.

Well I'd like to thank you for admitting that if you really mean it. The whole reason I started that thread at RTT when it originally happened was because it was a HUGE fucking wake up call and that I could have killed myself and, even worse, others. My intent was to possibly reach any of you fuckheads and let you know that the shit ain't worth it. Some of you might act all high and mighty on these boards but nobody knows what happens after you log off. I was just trying to help if nothing else. Ahh yes...this IS a smack board so of course I caught all hell for it and I'm fine with that. I deserved it, I guess. Two weeks after that happened one of my best friends was not not as lucky as I was. Ran off the road in similar drunk fashion and boom! Dead.

I've moved on from this as it was five years ago last month. Lot's of things have changed and I can't say that life has ever been better. Rip on me all you want for it. I don't fucking care. I like reading this board as there are some funny fucking people up in here. I'll be around. I might post here and there. Who really gives a shit right?

Biggie's sig might think otherwise.

^that's the last serious post I'm ever going to drop in this place^

Not sure how they do it up there in the U & L, but the ignition interlock devices here require that you hum while blowing into them (someone pass Cicero a towel), so it's not like you can hook up a random air source to get past it. If you have a totally sober person blow into it for you, you run the risk that anywhere from 2 minutes to 30 minutes later, it may require you to blow into it again, and a failure there will shut down your ride.

Of course, if you're talking about rewiring the ignition, I'm sure you can handle that.

Honestly, I haven't dealt with one in a few years(that would be professionally, not having one installed), so I don't know about the humming part. In the old days(they've been trying to work that SCAM around here for about 20 years or more), when the interlock was installed, it was calibrated to the induvidual's lung capacity, based on volume and flow.

Dang, maybe my proposed DMV test isn't quite as easy as I thought. Although I did kinda used to repair automotive electrical type stuff, and the typical shitty installation often caused people problems. But damn, some of the lowlifes I saw who had those things figured out led me to believe it really wasn't rocket science(since I didn't learn the ways around from them, but rather figured it out all on my own, in seconds/minutes).
Of course, if you're talking about rewiring the ignition, I'm sure you can handle that.

Well, I could handle that, certainly(refer to prior mention of old-days occupation). Before I did, I'd damn-sure do some heavy research into how the logging procedure works on one of those cheap POS devices.

Then again, if it were me, I'd abstain from trying to start the car after drinking, since operating a vehicle while intoxicated isn't the right thing to do. BUT, we get into "principle of the matter," and the government has no business touching your private property.

OK, for the not-so-much outside-the-box-thinkers...

Nah. Nevermind. The Nannystaters think they're getting over on people, so I'm not going to alter their profit/loss ratio(which is ALL interlocks are about) by stating the obvious and starting an "internet rumor" on how to defeat it, which would force the profiteers to redesign their little chunk of Big Brother.

But it's pretty simple, and works well... seen it with my own two eyes, on multiple occasions, by multiple people... unless the theft/interlock industry upped their game in recent years. I suppose if you're that curious/desperate to drive after drinking, you can PM me. If you're that worried about it.

Dins,

I know someone who is dealing with one of those right now, and they apparently have come a long way with them. They absolutely will not activate unless the device senses a level of vibration very similar to humming. Also very sensitive to moisture, to the point where they suggest bringing the mouthpiece inside during cold weather, as condensation can create false positives. And no, TenTreesDead, it's not me, it really is just someone I know.
