Why put the steroids in the headline, but not the other shit that was in his system?
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit had steroids and other drugs in his system when he killed his wife and young son last month before hanging himself in the family's home, investigators said Tuesday.

Benoit's body contained elevated levels of testosterone, which appeared to have been injected, as well as the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI said Benoit tested negative for alcohol.
Does steroid rage usually lead to hanging?
Dr. Kris Sperry also said Benoit's 7-year-old son, Daniel, was sedated when he was killed, and that his wife had prescription drugs in her system.....Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son, placed Bibles next to their bodies and then hanged himself on the cable of a weight machine.
This is going to sound cruel, but at least the kid never knew what happened to him, because his parents sedated him before killing him. I say parents, plural, because
Benoit's wife, Nancy, tested positive for Xanax, hydrocodone and the painkiller hydromorphone. Daniel Benoit had Xanax in his system, authorities said.
looks like Woman had a shitload of 'scripts in her system, too. Did Chris leave a note at any point?

Unfortunately for the wife and kid he did things in the wrong order.

Good point. Law enforcement everywhere alarmed with the number of homicides due to Xanax and Vicodin.....

Probably not, but I am sure that since he had 2 days to think about things he knew that was the easy way out of it.

I wish the Drug War was as remotely easy an issue to solve as you appear to believe.

Why not?

Thousands of people take steroids every day and don't kill their families. Just look at Barry Bonds. Did he kill his wife? OK, so he tossed her down the stairs a few times. But that was BEFORE he started juicing. Funny that since he started juicing there have been no Barry Bonds wife beating stories.

Legalizing steroids is easily analogous to legalizing weed - and Paul Harvey is a dew-frocked young lad who sings in dulcet tones.

Agreed. On the one hand, you have common sense and precedent. On the other, you have a corrupt government that gets a blank check to make the drug problem and crime worse.

There are two periods in American history where the rate of violent crime stands well above the rest -- the peak of Prohibition, and the peak of the War on Drugs. And it's not a coincedence.

Newsflash -- back when the federal government operated legally, you could buy cocaine, and Bayer Heroin at the store. Where were all the addicts? Where were the big crime sydicates?

There weren't any. The law of supply and demand rendered such organizations useless.

When a new drug becomes readily available, there's going to be a few problems. Over time, Natural Selection kicks in, and most people are smart enough to see what addiction has done to those who became hooked, and basic observation serves as it's own deterrent.

But what's the first lesson the Bible teaches? Something about forbidden fruit? Guess what -- that same story holds true 2000+ years later. At this point, it's retarded to call it anything other than "human nature."

But, there's a reason for prohibitions, and it's in stark contrast to the well-being of the general public -- they exist because it allows the corporate fatcats to make more money. If anyone thinks drug laws actually protect them, then they're an idiot, and history backs that fact up rather nicely.

Word. Having a couple of friends who were far smarter than I was turn into burnout, loser dropouts (one on pot, one on LSD) was enough for me to realize that either moderation or abstaining completely was the best way to go. I had just about every kind of drug around me damn near every weekend throughout my 20's, but stuck with beer instead.

Don't remember if I told this story or not, so excuse me if I'm glass-dicking myself....wait... Anyway, when I was in the Navy I used to party in Hollywood during the 90's. There was this Australian chick who was really cool, but she just happened to be hooked on both coke and meth, so she was always spreading it around the crowd at every party. Crazy times!!! She was always trying to get, Steve, who was an aspiring actor (he had small roles on coach and other tv shows of the era) to try coke or meth and he never would. Well, one weekend he finally knuckled down and did some of the high-quality meth this chick could score and absolutely fucking loved it.

I had to go out to sea for a couple of weeks and when I came back, I knocked on Steve's door and he answers looking like a complete mess. I apologize, thinking that I had woken him up from a nap. "No," he said, "I just make myself lay down for a few hours a day to rest, but don't ever sleep. I haven't slept in four days." ??? Turns out that dude was basically one of those "one hit addictions" waiting to happen, just like he was worried about to begin with. He went on to explain that he only took one shower a week now because the body oils would clog up his pores and keep the meth in his system longer. Ugh. He lost his day job, obviously and soon ran out of $$ and was evicted. He ended up moving back to Connecticut to live with his parents and get straightened out.

So anyway, I've had examples like him throughout my life, to look at and say "too much drugs = bad", and have either used in moderation here and there, or mostly not at all.

Are you inferring that Xanax (valium) and vicodin (hydrocodone) will cause people to murder their families?

The two words "meth" and "moderation" are oxymoronic.

Wanna tell you all a story, about this chick I know.
They call her Amphetamine Annie, and she's always shovelin' snow.
I sat her down and told her, I told her crystal clear
I don't mind you gettin' high but there's one thing you should fear
Your mind might think it's flyin' baby on those little pills
But you ought to know it's dyin', cause - speed kills!

But Annie kept on speedin', her health was gettin' poor
She saw things in the window, she heard things at the door
Her mouth was like a grindin' mill, her lips where cracked and sore
Her skin was turnin' yellow, I just couldn't take it no more
She thought her mind was flyin' on those litte pills
She didn't know it was going down fast, cause - speed kills!

Yaaaa, speed can kill you too baby, yaa

Well I sat her down and told her, I told her one more time
The whole wide human raice has taken far too much methadrine
She said "I don't care what a lymie says, I got to get it on
I'm not hip to the scene of the man who comes from across the pond."
She wouldn't heed my warning, Lord she wouldn't hear what I said
Now she's here in the grave yard, and she's awfully dead.

Well, I was speaking mostly to pot when I said "in moderation". I tried meth a couple of times, but really didn't see the point of a drug that just made you want to clean the house for three days straight. Plus, coming down took two days of solid sleep. Fuck that.

Back before the government decided to invent a new "scourge on society," and back when Oregon and california were way ahead of the country's meth bell-curve, back in the mid-80's...

We used to do zip frequently. It didn't have anywhere near the stigma it does now, and was socially acceptable, to an extent. And while I knew a few people with some problems, the vast majority would "hit it and quit it."

They sold meth in stores for years and years and years. And it wasn't until the government decided that WW2 soldiers should be issued the stuff without telling them what it was or what the dangers were that it became a problem.

Hostory has shown over and over and over and over that when the government gets involved with drugs, bad things inevitably happen.

Doesn't that depend on how dirty your house is?

True, but the places I'd be doing it at would generally be a friend's house, as I was in the Navy at the time. Less cleaning up someone else's crib, thanks.

BTW, you could always tell the guys on the ship that were hopped up on speed. For one thing, when you'd go into the berthing compartment to do wakeups for the 0400 watch, they'd be the guys with their lights on reading instead of sleeping. But also, they'd be the guys that would just paint the shit out of everything whenever they didn't have something to do. Never did any meth on the ship as I didn't see the point because you could never have enough sleep time to come down off of it.

"I'm not even in the Navy, man. I just had a little bout of insomnia, and figured I'd paint a ship."

Did the spun sailors pull off the bulkheads and sell them for scrap metal?

No, but they would steal tools and just about anything else that wasn't welded to the deck.

I joined the Navy at the end of the drug era. Just a few years prior to my arrival, you'd have guys doing crap like spiking the 3 gallon coffee pot that everyone drank out of with a bunch of meth. Ha-fucking-ha! By the time I was getting out, they piss-tested often enough that if you did much of anything you'd get caught.

You'd still get the occasional rocket scientist who'd think that he could get away with smoking a joint in the engine room as long as he stood next to one of the 50 mph exhaust vents. Too bad they weren't bright enough to realize that the vents blew their smoke all over the pier.

Personally, I'm talking about ancient history here. The last time I touched anything other than alcohol was when my stoner roommate at the emu house made some pot brownies something like 8 years ago.
