Actually not. I don't know how I forgot that Kevin White is a total pussy and would never schedule a traditional power.
This is no offense against you or your boys Mucho, but I'm hearing it's USF. I love your team and think they will be a major force in the Big East within the next 5-10 years, but this is typically Kevin White pussy bullshit. If ND beats USF, and they continue on their projected arc, White can say he had a part in their rise. But then when you are a very good team, he'll never take your call. All the while, this placates his masters within the Big East conference.
Fuck off, douche pump.

No offense taken. I haven't heard anything if it will be us or not, but I know that is a year where ND was going to 3 Big East teams. I think you already have Rutgers and Pitt scheduled that year.
I see the point you are trying to make. Obviously, it would be something that our program and fans would welcome, but I will wait until it is signed, sealed and delivered before getting too excited. I still don't think it will be us, but I certainly want it to be.

I think our fans would welcome it as well, if it was done properly. White has shown a disdain for scheduling traitional powers, outside of the ones ND has played in recent memory. Alabama wanted a game, they got a no. Minnesota (not a power) wanted ND to play the dedication game in their new stadium, ND said no.
If White were to drop Army, Duke, Air Force, North Carolina, etc., ND fans would welcome a team that is on the rise. They did it with Miami and a few other teams, I'm sure ND fans would welcome a series with USF. But because White puts together schedules by drawing out of a hat, and his refusal to schedule some of these other teams, ND fans will be dissapointed if USF is announced.
Maybe it will be UCF and O'Leary can flip of White every time they score.

I'd like to see it as more than 1 game, but that may be asking too much.

USF is my favorite Big East team - not just because of Mucho posting here, but because they're plucky, and they always seem interesting to watch.

Part of the problem with White, when it comes to scheduling, is that he's trying to stuff 50 pounds of shit into a 10-pound bag.
- He wants a 7-4-1 schedule (i.e., seven home games, four road games and one neutral field game). In most years, ND's traditional rivals will eat up all but one of the road/neutral field games. So by definition, the 7-4-1 model requires scheduling lots of patsies who won't ask for a return trip from ND.
- He wants to continue the three Big Ten teams (Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue) who are regularly on our schedule, along with USC, Stanford and Navy.
- He has committed to three games per seasons against the Big East. At the same time, and to make matters even worse, he signed long-term deals with both Pitt and Rutgers while acceding to Big East requests to play every Big East school in the relatively near future. That means, in all likelihood, no more than one game against any of the other Big East schools before 2015.
ND Nation is in pretty close to full-on meltdown mode over the Alabama deal. I've heard Minnesota mentioned over there as well, but was not aware of the exact context. I don't think Alabama should ever become a regular on our schedule due to the fact that we have next to no fanbase in that neck of the woods. But given the tradition of the two schools, a two-year home-and-home once every decade or so would be nice. As for Minnesota, I have no desire to see them as a regular on our schedule (one of, although by no means the only, reasons I'm so opposed to ND joining the Big Ten). But I would like to see a two-year home-and-home where both games were the season opener for both teams, and Minnesota's home game was the dedication game of their new stadium.
Unfortunately, as athletic director at ND, Kevin White continues to do an unfunny impression of George Costanza as Assistant to the Traveling Secretary of the New York Yankees. I don't know for sure, of course, but I have to guess that he has incriminating photos of Father Jenkins and Affleck-Graves. It's the only possible way I can understand him still having his job.
Btw, I'm not quite sure why we'd play USF in the Citrus Bowl. IIRC, USF plays in Raymond James Stadium, which is big enough to accommodate ticket demand. And Tampa isn't all that far from Orlando, anyway.

Terry, are you 100% sure that ND was committed to playing every Big East team? Everything I have seen stated that ND was going to play 3 Big East teams over a set number of years. It did not say that every team would be played.

Mucho,
I should qualify that statement by saying that it was posted at ND Nation. There's a lot of amazing info on there for a free site, but at the same time some of it is BS as well.
Anyway, the word is that it's the Big East, not ND, insisting on that provision.

The Big East wanted every team to be played, but I believe the provision was the 3 teams a year for a set number of years.

As I understand it, there is no written agreement, just a "handshake deal," so the terms might very well be a little murky.
Btw,
here's a link that contains most of the information I've used.

There are certainly other ways. White purposely leaving his car parked at the stadium at all hours of the day is definitely another possibility.

You would be surprised at the level of information that some people have over there. People make fun of that board (and rightfully so most times), but some of the people there know everything. Golic made fun of them on the radio for the C4C letter w/r/t Willingham, but it worked. It didn't get him fired, but it got the right people thinking and got the wheels in motion well before the 2004 season.
They also have squashed the jumbotron at ND stadium, and they tried to oust Davie, but it didn't work.

In fairness, the first C4C letter stopped short of calling for Willingham's firing. The second (after the '04 season) did not.
They also have squashed the jumbotron at ND stadium,
I'm not quite sure why there is such vehement opposition to a jumbotron. From the standpoint of instant replays, it actually wouldn't be that bad an idea. Not every seat at Notre Dame Stadium is a great seat. It's quite possible to miss a play.
Given a choice between the jumbotron and Kevin White staying on as AD, I'd rather take the jumbotron.

Wouldn't ND be giving up a home game in order to do that? I think Navy will be in 1 of those games.

I'm not sure if ND will be giving up a home game for this game. I know the stated intention going forward is a 7-4-1 model. Our ability to stick to that is another matter, however. Like I said, White is trying to stuff 50 pounds of shit into a 10-pound bag when it comes to scheduling.
In the Navy-ND series, Navy's "home" game is always on a neutral field. Usually of late it has been somewhere in the northeast, although it was once in Orlando, as Screw pointed out, and even once in Dublin, Ireland.
I wouldn't mind playing either a 2- or 4-game set vs. USF sometime in the near future. This is a program on the rise, and ND has a vested interest in helping to keep the Big East viable. It would also be helpful to play in Florida more often than we have in the recent past, given the recruiting possibilities there. Since we made our last trip to Miami prior to that series expiring (series expired in '90, our last roadie was in '89), ND has only played three regular season games in Florida:
- '94 vs. Florida State @ Citrus Bowl
- '00 vs. Navy @ Citrus Bowl
- '03 @ Florida State

Terry, my question concerning Screw's post was if ND played Navy in both games in Orlando. If the years are 2011 and 2014, then wouldn't ND being giving up a home game with Navy if they played both of those Orlando games against them? I am assuming that Navy plays @ ND in odd years, so that would make a game in Orlando with them likely in 2014.
I hope that we can work something out with ND as well.

The reason why so many people don't want the Jumbotron is because if White is the AD when it happens, it will be a complete disgrace. He is the worst revenue whore in the world, so the Jumbotron would look like the one at Texas, not the one at UofM. I have no issues with the one at UofM.

Mucho, my bad. I didn't realize that ND had committed to two games in the Citrus Bowl until I surfed a little more and found the article in the Orlando Sentinel.
With that additional info, my best guess is that the '14 game will be against Navy (would give us two neutral field games that season otherwise) and the '11 game will be against somebody else, probably USF.

I just went over to ND Nation since you mentioned that. There's pretty much a full-blown meltdown going on. Not over playing Washington State per se*, but based on the venue. Had ND signed a deal to play Washington State in Seattle, for example, I think most people would have been cool with it.
And if these deals are based on White's cronyism, in addition to Baylor, we can expect to see Iowa State, Tulane, Hawaii, Cal and heaven forbid, Western Illinois in the near future. Hawaii as a road game would be cool, as would a neutral site game with Cal (m2ool's running of the mouth would undoubtedly be priceless), but White undoubtedly would screw up the venue somehow.
* Actually, a few days ago someone at ND Nation suggested scheduling Washington State under the 7-4-1 format, in that Washington State probably would agree to a 1-off deal every now and then, and they're certainly a step or ten up from, say, the MAC or Sun Belt teams.

Terry, would you happen to have the opponents for the 2011 schedule? I could only get up to 2010 and then it stopped.
The ND Nation meltdown on the Orlando game is pretty amusing. One guy trying to say that playing USF would be bad because we wouldn't travel well is pretty comical.

Mucho, I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of these links, but here are a few that I've found so far:
http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/56 ... .htm#years
http://www.maplenet.net/~trowbridge/NDSched.htm
http://www.uhnd.com/football-items/futu ... schedules/
http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/futu ... future.htm
That far in advance, I think it's safe to say that everything is tentative at this point. We have our sacred cows that we'll play at some point each season, of course, but beyond that, pretty much everything else is fair game.
BC in particular is a real head-scratcher to me. Killian tells me that series is ending after this season. But some of those links have that series continuing through '10, and I think one even has it continuing through '13.
