Weakest Home Schedule?
I haven't had a chance to really look at all the schedules around the country, but can any of you claim to have a lamer home schedule this year than Iowa?
Our home games are Syracuse, Western Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan State. Very lame. Probably wasted money buying season tickets this year!
Heck, our road schedule isn't much more difficult. We have a game at Soldier Field against Northern Illinois to open the year, but that's really a home game. It's sold out and probably 90% of the fans will be wearing the black and gold. We've got a trip to Ames to face a rebuilding ISU team. Also go to Madison to face the most overrated team in the country, Wisconsin. They were the biggest fraud in the history of college football last year. They beat nobody all year and only won their bowl game over Arkansas because it was handed to them. They'll fall back a little. Probably be a 9-3 or 8-4 team. Also go to Penn State, but I don't think they're that good either. We haven't lost in Happy Valley since 1994. Have a 5 game winning streak over Penn State overall. Also travel to Northwestern (pretty much a home game too) and Purdue (might be a tough game, but you never know as Tiller is a terrible coach and his teams continually underachieve).
Overall, very lame schedule. This team will be improved but I think we're still a year away from getting back to the level we were at from 2002-2005. But I think we should still win 10 games (maybe more) just because of how pathetic the schedule is. We have a coach making over $3 million per year and if he doesn't win 10 games minimum with that schedule, he should give his salary back. No coach should go 6-7 one year and then not win 10 games with this schedule the following year while making over $3 million.
Lame schedule or not, I'm ready for football!!!

Colorado season ticket holders get Miami (OH), Florida State, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.
not too bad.
though last year's Montana State, Arizona State, TTech, Baylor, K State, ISU was pretty weak.

The Big 10, shoulda did what the Pac did and added another conference game. Iowa not having Mich and OSU on their sched is really lame. It isn't any fault of Iowa's but it is still lame. Add in a scrubby noncon-sched and Iowa really has it made, should do no worse than 9-3 if they are decent. I do feel for their season-ticket holders. What is there to look forward to?
You gonna bark all day little doggie or are you gonna bite?
I wouldnt' go that far, kicking teams out of conferences is kinda extreme especially since BCS-affiliation means a ton. But I would like to see more in-conference games played.SoCalTrjn wrote:every conference should have the conferences teams play eachother, drop 1 or 2 schools from all the 11 or 12 school conferences

Home:

Southern California...anyone know anythang 'bout this bunch?
Ball St.
Iowa St.
Okie St.
Texas A&M
Kansas St.
Away:
Wake Forest
Missouri
Texas
Kansas
Colorado
I think NU could have their hands full on the road.
Not to mention at home with SC, OK. St. (they will have a dynamic offense), and A&M that will want payback.
Wake will be good offensively and pose problems for a defense that will be looking for a defensive front, and still has a midget at corner..
Missouri favored to win the north with firepower everywhere offensively much like OK. St..
Texas is Texas
Kansas' offense has Cosgrove baffled
Colorado can't be any worse than last year.
Cosgrove will be the lynch pin for NU. He and Callahan may not be so buddy buddy if he doesn't win a game or two defensively. We will be tested time and again on defense. Lots of good offenses on NU's schedule. Look for NU in multiply shoot-out games.
And how in the world Bo Rudd, a guy that arm tackles like an 8th grader, made pre-season All Big 12 team, is beyond me.
Another defensive weakness as far as I'm concerned.

Road - Auburn, Florida Atlantic, Rutgers, UConn, Syracuse, Pitt
Pretty good home schedule with WVU and Louisville. North Carolina should draw some interest with Butch Davis coaching. Next year will be weaker with Rutgers being the best of the bunch and they should be down once Ray Rice leaves after this season.
The least attractive home schedule has to go to Pitt. They have Grambling, Eastern Michigan, Navy (on a Wednesday night), Cincinnati, UConn, Syracuse, and USF.

Chatter about Big 10 adding a conference game
One of the things that bugs me about the Big 10 is how the front office clings to Tradition until somebody waves a beefy spreadsheet in their faces.
It's all about the Geld.
I haven't been happy with the PSU AD's scheduling choices of late. Paterno said they needed 7 home games, but Curley is hell-bent on getting 8 - and it doesn't seem to matter to him whether he's grabbing cupcakes or donuts. Competitive football takes a backseat to the GELD

Oh yeah, Pitt has Iowa dominated in the "Who plays the shittier home schedule" category!
Danimal,
The schedule is lame, but I'm still not regretting renewing my season tickets. There's plenty to look forward to.....like tailgating. The Syracuse game will be under the lights and the atmosphere at Kinnick for night games is awesome. Kicking Minnesota's ass is always fun. And really, any game is fun regardless of the opponent. Sure, I wish Ohio State or Michigan was coming to town and even Iowa State, but it's still Hawkeye football. You're right though, any halfway decent team should go 9-3 with that schedule.

How's this for a home schedule?
Bama has:
Arkansas
Georgia
Houston (Homecoming)
Tennessee
LSU
Tempered with:
Mississippi St.
Vandy
Louisiana-Monroe
Ole Miss
Western Carolina
You are what you eat....remove your liplock from your bicycleta....SEC scheduling is cupcake heaven.
Peddle tripe elsewhere.

Totally agree, Danimal. Without the extra game, most teams are scheduling a cupcake in the middle of the conference schedule anyways. tOSU plays Kent State in the middle of October. Stupid. What a waste of a game. Just add the extra Big Ten game and get on with it. Iowa getting no UM or tOSU is absolutely pathetic. Purdue has had that luxury a few seasons as well. There is no way that should happen.Danimal wrote:The Big 10, shoulda did what the Pac did and added another conference game. Iowa not having Mich and OSU on their sched is really lame. The sad part is how little Purdue did with not having Mich and OSU. I think they are about as good as they will ever get under Tiller, they'll make some bowl every year but aren't a real threat. Mich and OSU are synonymous with Big10 football. No way should they both be off a sched.
