A one year veteran minimum deal with no signing bonus means that he knows the starting job will be wide open and given to the best QB when everything is said and done. In general, it's best to sit a rookie QB. The speed of the NFL game, coupled with the complexity of an NFL playbook can fuck a rookies world. I'm all for throwing position players to the wolves, but QB's should sit at least 1 season, IMHO.

At the absolute worst, we cut him and take no hit to the cap whatsoever with his meager contract and give up nothing. Thats a win/win situation in my book.

The stalled negotiations dont bother me because we arent pressing the kid to start immediately-he'll have plenty of time to learn on the sidelines. Besides, we all know that Al wont get taken behind the woodshed when it comes to contracts, and not dealing with salary cap hell (see: 49ers, Titans, Ravens, ect.) is a testament to that.

Culpepper has done absolutely nothing in the two seasons since being separated from Moss. He's horrible. He had little to work with in Miami and definitely has less now.
