Here is the basic info.

I have a desktop conneceted to a wireless router connected to my cable modem. I have a wireless notebook that I want to use the printer attached to my desktop. I've tried to get it working, but I'm a tard. BTW, the notebook also connects to both a wireless and ethernet network in my office.

Notrebook XP Pro
Desktop XP Home
Netgear Wireless router
Motorola cable modem
HP Deskjet 952C printer on LPT:1

If you need anything else, let me know. If you can help me with some SIMPLE instructions, post it here if it's gonna take more than that, PM me.

TIA

Go into your desktop and in your printer properties you need to share it to all. Then search for it on your laptop and it should download the drivers to make it work.

The printer properties can be accessed by hitting the start button, then click on "printers and faxes" on the right side, then right click on the printer you wish to share, then select sharing, click on the "share" button, and remember the name of the shared printer, or give it a recognizable one.

Then you should see it listed on the lap in the same printers and faxes directory I outlined above, and you can make it the default in the lap by right clicking and checking "set as default" A little black checkmark will appear next to it indicating it is the default printer. When you try and print it should install the drivers, or ask for a disk.

Nope, it isn't working, I tried all that before. BTW, when I said I was a tard, I didn't mean an absolute, complete tard. I know enought to be dangerous, just not enough to know what I'm doing.

well unless you can say what you are experiencing, everyone but you is blind.

Having that multiple network connections set up you've got going could lead to difficulties, but I'm not as well versed on this stuff as others are.

Ahh its monday morning, fucking snow never showed up, so here I am at work, hoping it will cover us by noon and then I can go home. No luck yet. To get back on topic. Assuming you shared your printer on your PC, when you go over to the laptop, here are some questions to answer:

A) You open up My Network Places, and then on the left side you look at your workgroup, do you see your PC and Laptop or just the laptop? If you do go onto B), if not then can you determine if both your PC and Laptop are in the same workgroup (mshome or workgroup usually)? If they aren't in the same workgroup, can you find the other workgroup (that your PC is in) and access it? Alternatively, you might also check to see if from your PC, can you find your laptop. If your computers can't see each other then that is your initial problem and if you let us know, we will be able to figure out why. (firewall or network configuration problems usually)

B) So if you can see the other computer from your laptop in the workgroup then the next question is, can you access it. If you can, you should see the printer under it. If you can't what error do you get? If its an error about permissions then most likely your firewall is at fault. If you get a login box then your permissions are set up incorrectly or you need to create a user account on the PC for your laptop.

Those are the main problems I can see off the top of my head. If you give us the error, or walk us through what you do/click/happens. Someone can give you some guidance.
