Not too crazy about Canada, so far
My first trip to Montreal.
In defense, I've only seen the airport, my car to the hotel and the hotel.
I'm out in some office park in the burbs.
Tomorrow is the first day in the new office.
Initial observations.
Lots of stuff in French.
More choices of wine than food in the restaurant.
No ESPN just Sportsnet (and it's not Fox)
Actually not a whole lot of the typical cable channels period.
But a lot of French channels.
My driver liked to talk about the NFL and Hockey - He got a $5 tip
The gym in the hotel gets about a 7 - decent treadmill, weights and a dumbell set (insert paul joke)
Already thinking it's gonna suck watching the Thursday night kickoff game up here.
Lots of Asians in the hotel and they had Tennis on in the restaurant ('sup poptart?)
Yikes!

Montreal Scott

The exchange rate makes dances like 7 bucks US. It might be worse now though.....
Strippers up there are alot cooler. You can get away with alot more and they actually drink with you and hang out....
Even with all the Frenchness, I dug Montreal. Make sure you get the viande fumee (smoked meat) somewhere (it's really just corned beef...but it's damn good). If you know some flashcard French, throw out a little and they'll appreciate the effort...but most people in services will speak both. Well, until you get to the suburbs where it's almost exclusively French. But I'm sure you'll get by.
Nicest thing about Montreal is that the people look healthier (not as fat...like many an American) and they dress much better. Good city.

It is worse. Canadian dollars are now trading for .95 US dollars. Considering that 10 years ago you could get 1 Loonie for .65 cents US, Your lap dance has gone up to 9.50 US.Neely8 wrote:The exchange rate makes dances like 7 bucks US. It might be worse now though.....

My first adventure out of the country, I was recently in Montreal for a wedding and found it to be a beautiful city with beautiful people. Looked like a great town to be young and/or single.
I stayed at the Delta Montreal off Avenue Du Presidente Kennedie
Enjoyed the experience one hundred percent. I don't do bars anymore but we did go to the Sulpice (sp?) which looked like a happening place, lively with a host of hot waitresses. One of whom who was extremely intrigued at my lack of desire for booze. I told her, "I'm allergic to alcohol, I break out in handcuffs" and that ... well ... I could hear the swishing as she walked away  Delusional or not, it was a nice ego boost.
No boobie bars on my trip so I can't speak to them.
I look forward to learning French better, then travelling up to see the Plains of Abraham and Quebec City among other objectives.
Oh Canada. Who knew. If I had another lifetime.

Imagine the currency smack the canucks are gonna run when the loonie overtakes the real dollar. Them fukkers have been listening to "real dollar" smack forevah. Has the looney ever been worth more before? I seem to remember the exchange rate being fairly close when I was a kid, but, I could be wrong.BSmack wrote:It is worse. The tourist industry in canuckland must really be hating our money turning into monopoly money. Wonder how long before the peso is trading 1 to 1?

went and looked it up. looks like back in the mid seventies, the loonie actually had slight 'bode on the greenback, by a nickle or so.
does this mean the vending machines at work are gonna start accepting canuck quarters? usually they kick them back, but, now and then I can get one through. the thrill of getting over on the vending machine company to the tune of about 9 cents is gone though.
