It is painfully obvious that BC has done the same thing he did with the raiders, lost his team. Coz's D is not only inept but have obviously quit. Even at-home our O can't get it going against a meh offense when we really need a win. This team doesn't give a rat's ass about these coaches. Say what you will about Solich and company but that '03 team rallied around their coaches and won their last two in an effort to save them. They also came to the press-conference when Pedey made the announcement and made their position known. This team could give a rat's ass about the staff going and probably would even support it.
It wouldn't surprise me for Pedey to bail on BC in order to save his own ass. But if Perlman has any sense he'll see it was Pedey that got us into this mess.
Perlman needs to get TO in as AD then fire Pedey, BC, and Coz. Hell let TO be interim-HC, we couldn't play worse. Then get permission from LSU to talk to Bo. With Pedey gone I can totally see Bo coming here.

Listening to Cally's post-game show right now on Sirius. He sounds shell-shocked.

Karma's a bitch. Can't really be shocked at how bad Nebraska has looked lately. They are mediocre at best and have been for damn near a decade. Sucks to be Husker fan, but all the woodshed you guys laid over the years, I'm sure not too many rival eyes are crying for your misfortunes.

I don't believe in football karma. If that existed, it sure as hell took a long time for some teams to catch up to do it.
What I do believe is our AD's, Steve Pederson's Karma biting him in the freaking ass right now. He was bound and determined to fire Frank (and believe me, I thought it might be a good idea), but when he fucked up the search so badly and made it a national joke, it was only fitting that he hired a coach that just got fired for losing his team. On that team, some players loved him. A lot of players hated him for not listening to advice and basically being a pig-headed a-hole.
Our fans chanted 'We want Bo!' over and over after Pelini led our team to a nice bowl win for the 10th win in 2003, but he really didn't listen. He was the one-man search committee that was willing to hand over the keys to Dave Wannstandt of all people! I couldn't believe that when I heard it. Then we that didn't pan out, he had to scramble. Pelini did himself no favors by being a bit of an a-hole during that time, but I guess if you hated SP as much as he hated SP, then you'd have a pretty good reason.

i saw most of it on one of the ESPNs. i almost gagged on the insincerity of Cally saying he's coaching "for the kids". he never actually implicated himself in any of the blame....directly. he's coaching for the kids and the NU tradition. his time at NU shows that, if nothing else.
what a fucking clown.

Absolutely. I feel like a fool for having fallen for him time and time again. I would fall off the bandwagon several times, only to be sucked back in when it seemed like some progress has been made. He took NU to a Big 12 North championship, that's true, but it's really apparent now that he doesn't know what to do with talent once he's got them on campus.
When he's fired, he need to apologize for being so pig-headed that he can't even recognize it. After every loss since he's been here, he and his DC buddy, Coz, have pretty much thrown the players under the bus because they weren't making the plays that the system calls for on both sides of the ball. Players that should be playing have gotten pretty fed up not playing because they don't kiss enough ass or Callahan doesn't trust them.

There is a reason the WCO never took-off before at the college-level. I'd rather be running a spread-option system. Hell I'd rather be running our old offense or an air-it-out attack like Taco Tech's than this.

Huskerfan,
On the off chance that you did end up with Paul Johnson as HC, do you think that a primarily under-center option offense could still work in a BCS conference? In all honesty, I'd love to see it happen, but do you think it's feasible?

You know, I haven't really seen Navy play closely to have an opinion. Some NU fans mentioned that they would like someone like him because he seems to know how to squeeze talent out of his kids. A triple-option attack would be interesting to say the least. I think it could work if it's tailored to work fast. Good defenses (not Cosgroves's) are planned to attack fast, so the slow-moving options plays of the pass might not work. It's hard to say...
That's one of the problems with Callahan's WCO is that it takes so long for a lot of his plays to develop.
I think people would here would definitely welcome a return to option football.

Please don't fire Callahan until after the season.

back to the past is a dangerous temptation.
How's Fran doing with that option? McGee could have been a baller for some pretty good OU and NU option teams.....but, they suck on D.

It wasn't supposed to work against Florida in '95, Tennessse in '97 or FSU in '93 when NU really should have won that game.
I believe it could, but to run it with some spread sets and have a guy that can get open and a QB that is decent at throwing, I think you create alot of problems. Teams need to specifically prepare for the option maybe once a year at best in the BCS conferences, (really not at all) so you'd pose that problem to teams with only 5 days to prepare for something they never see.
What I like about Johnson is I honestly believe he can adapt to talent and even though he would be option based, with talent he could spread you out as well. Problem is to recruit to that offense. (Under center option). Kids want up tempo and to get the really good skill players for spread sets would be a hurdle.
He was O-coordinator with alot of success at Hawaii.
I guess what I'm saying is I'd expect Johnson to run spread option at a BCS school.
If by chance we would flirt with him, I sure as hell hope he finds a VERY GOOD defensive coordinator first and foremost. I'm a defensive guy first and I want people stopped, spread offense or not! Dammit!

93, 95. 97 were 10 years ago.
Nebraska needs to hire the best football coach they can find--regardless of scheme. back to the past is failure. back to Osborne is a failure. it doesn't work like that.
back to the option is a 7-9 win year top end.
when Pedey dumped Solich after 9 wins and a new staff including Jesus Bo and Barney Cotton NU he was in a bad position and got no looks. ironically, as Cally has sucked himself dry...the NU job will look more like a sleeping giant that seems like an opportunity.
though, i think Cosgrove takes the bullet/scapegoat, and Cally rolls on after a 7 win season. making for a VERY long off-season in Lincoln and Bugeater nation....with the future of the program very much in doubt. North is getting better, even ISU. NU is the only team getting worse.

He rolls out of town at seasons end. Bank it!
He knows it, you could see it yesterday.
I firmly believe with the Pederson execution taking place at the same time.
The money talk has leaked errr....taken on Katrina like flooding... to remove the problems.
Trust me, it was anarchey yesterday at Memorial Stadium...this will be his last season...pure and simple.
Droves of people leaving at halftime...radio commentators apologizing to listeners for not know what to say.
Dude with paper bag over his head, hell some of the '97 team left early as did the student body all gone BEFORE the half!
Next time you see him coach against OU will be never.

i hope you are right. there has to be some point where the fans and the people take control over the money/admin. that's what a public university is supposed to be about.
i guess if it's gonna happen anywhere, it's gonna be a place like Nebraska.
Nebraska was always my second fave team, like many OU fans who grew up in that Osborne-Switzer era. but i didn't even care about the "hillbilly" thing, i just wanted callahan to lose. the pomposity was easy to see....about how he would re-invent the college game. as a CFB lifelong fan, fuck that.

I don't necessarily think so. Going back to our roots could definitely work. And, No, I don't consider what A&M does to be a true option. Franchione (sp?) seems to be making the same mistake that Callahan is making, he's trying to push square pegs into round holes. The next coach, if they were to go for a option-like hybrid, will have to be smart to tailor it and tweak it from year to year to ensure that the offense is suited for the people they have.
From what I've read about Paul Johnson, he's gotten a lot of his under-sized, not as talent players. If his system is working at Navy, I think it could definitely work here.

IMO Johnson would augment his offensive system at Neb. He does what will work with the talent on-hand at Navy. At Neb he could throw the ball more and use more of a spread-option system.

Looks like net-rumor thus-far. The sticking point could be fat contract-buyouts. I think they'll have to get some people of influence to cough-up to get this done. I know I'd donate my share to see Pedey and his cronies gone.
