I just realized that one of my puters on the network has a different work group name.
Questions:
1 Does anything else besides changing the workgroup name have to be done?
2. Why am I able to see the shared file folder on this computer that is in a different workgroup?

Re: Home network workgroup names
No. Go into your Computer Properties (rightclick on My computer) and change the name under there. Then reboot and it should be set to go. If you don't reboot, things will not work correctly a lot of times.Mister Bushice wrote:I just realized that one of my puters on the network has a different work group name.

Workgroups are just grouping names. There is nothing that says you can't browse the computer from another workgroup and access its shares. Its not a security thing.Mister Bushice wrote: 2. Why am I able to see the shared file folder on this computer that is in a different workgroup?

what are the benefits of having computers on the same network also in the same workgroup?

Thanks. I'm not having any network problems, but I'm not a network wizard either.
