Book was awesome. Can't wait to see the film to see if it's worth the hype. Think it's out soon on DVD. Jon Krakauer also wrote Into THin Air which is also AWESOME. It's about the his trek up Everest where a lot of things went wrong and a lot of people died. Very exciting books that you won't want to put down. Another cool aspect to Into Thin Air is that an IMAX film crew was also filming the trek to Everest's summit during the same period of time. When you finish the book you can then watch the IMAX documentary. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's available.

I liked it.
as a 90's college kid, when "slacker" had an existential quality i could get with it some--. but, anything like this is going to need some heavy Romanticism versus reality thing. the Clinton era Summer of Love, right? it was well done i agree. but, the thing I appreciated about it was that it went over 2 hours. they didn't skimp hard on conventional plot rhythm...like a lot of shit which is shit.
however, when you are suffering, touching the face of truth and experience and/or dying in nature i don't think as much "tussled" hair gel is in order.
i thought that kid was pretty deece in Lords of Dogtown too. Hal Holbrook was great.
was not as crazy about the Eddie Vedder stuff, however.

Excellent movie, one of the best I've ever seen. I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread/movie.

I liked the movie, appropriatly depressing. As a guy that read the book 8-10 years ago I must say it was well cast. From from Vince Vaughn as the combine guy, Hal Holbrook was nails as was the hippie chick, cant remember her name...they just were spot on as the characters I had in my head while reading the book.
