(unofficial) Official Week 10: Top 16

1-LSU, I’d still take them on a neutral field against any other team
2-Oregon, but just barely over the Ducks who are a damn impressive team
3-Ohio St, their offense continues to come together and the D is stout
4-Oklahoma, still hard to believe they lost to Colorado
5-Kansas, 76 reasons to start thinking they’re legit (even though NEB D sucks)
6-Missouri, keep the Big 12 theme rolling and setting up some potential BCS fireworks the final weeks of the season
7-West Virginia
8-Georgia
9-Arizona St, still not sold on them but a road loss to Oregon won’t have them plummet in my rankings
10-Clemson
11-Auburn
12-USC
13-Boston College
14-Virginia Tech
15-Texas
16-Hawaii, again a fraud team but 0 losses will keep them here for me

Uh, hello?

sin,
Michigan

Teams in your poll that UM would beat.....

Kansas
ASU
Georgia
Clemson
Auburn
BC
GT
Texas
Hawaii

Probably a couple more but the AppSt. disaster looms over head. The Oregon loss looks better every week. But if USC gets mention after their historic loss, UM should at least crack the 16.

I don't have Michigan in my top 16 for 3 reasons.

1- They have an L in the books to a D2 team and that resonates with me.
2- They followed that by getting destroyed by Oregon at home. All W's after were against less than stellar opponents.
3- I hate Michigan and if there is any viable way to not give them any props I take it.

I knew your reasons, they're well documented around here my friend. Just bustin your stones is all. My post is my opinion as yours belongs to you. Michigan deserves the bashing, but should they run through the last two games they deserve major props....just not from you.

We all know how Michigan sucks at defending mobile quarterbacks. Texas and Colt would run roughshod over your Big 10 pansy asses.

Not saying that.

They haven'tplayed anybody so its a big question mark. Other teams have been tested.

Take the same record and schedule...I-AA team, Akron, Kent.....and put Boise or Utah on that resume instead....are they number one?

Anser me that one.....NO FUCKING WAY and you guys know it.

If they run the table they'll go from unranked in my poll to somewhere in the 7-10 range depending on what other schools do. And they'll be playing in a BCS bowl game so I doubt anyone associated with UM gives a fuck about what I think, not that anyone does now of course!!

I'll ask this of Mgo, Danimal and SunCoast since nobody seems to want to answer this question.

On what basis do you have Ohio State first but Kanas below 1 loss teams??

IMO, the only claim tO$U has to #1 is their undefeated status and therefore Kansas MUST be ranked #2 because they too have that claim. It is incorrect reasoning to use one set of criteria to rank one team and a different set for another, so I'm very interested to see the thought process behind tO$U 1, KU 4/5/7.

In Kansas' defense...

At least the conference schedule has made it so they finally surpassed the last of the D1AA teams that had exceeded Kansas' SoS this past weekend, so they've got that going for them.

Matter of fact, their schedule got so much tougher that they're now ahead of Hawaii in SoS... just barely.(Hawaii is dead last in D1.)

'Nuff said about Kansas? If you wanna compete for a Championship, then act like it when it comes time to schedule games.

Better luck in the next few years.

Probably the same way you would have tried to explain Southern Mississippi, Central Florida, and 1-AA Western Carolina last year.

You're welcome

That's f-in funny.....Southern Miss and UCF both went to bowl games.

UF's SOS was at or near the top.....they played something like THREE OR FOUR TOP TEN schools.

UF's schedule last year is not something you want to bring up...unless you are stupid.

But they played a 1-AA team, so they shouldn't have been eligible for the BCS championship game, right?

I think the most accurate and appropriate method of ranking teams is to not only include on-field results, but to factor in who you think is actually the best based on games you've seen, and based on teams with obvious levels of talent, experience, and coaching.

So when I factor in all these things, I put four teams ahead of KU. I think these four teams have a better overall resume, but more importantly, I think all four of these teams - OSU, LSU, Oregon, and OU - would beat KU head to head.

That may seem an unfair piece of criteria, but that's tough shit. At some point, you gotta interject some feeling into your rankings, and not just number-crunching and cold, hard logic.

KU is having a nice little season but I haven't seen anything from KU up to this point that suggests they can beat a powerhouse like LSU, OSU, etc. Would I be shocked to see it happen? No. But I'm also not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt over teams mentioned above. I gotta see em pull off something big first. I know the teams ahead of them are already capable of it.

In short, based on what I've seen, I'm simply not willing to call KU one of the two best teams in the country. And if you're doing this as reasonably and objectively as possible, I don't see how anyone else could either.

You gotta look at both sides. A lot of times it's not a reflection of "getting love" so much as it is a reflection of how unappealing the alternative choices are.

Thanks for the explanation. Two things you mention that caught my attention.
but more importantly, I think all four of these teams - OSU, LSU, Oregon, and OU - would beat KU head to head.
Which is exactly why I don't have tO$U ranked 1st, I'd pick the teams I have ahead of them to beat them head to head.
But I'm also not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt over teams mentioned above. I gotta see em pull off something big first. I know the teams ahead of them are already capable of it.
How exactly do you know THIS YEAR that tO$U is capable of pulling off something big?? No question they have great tradition but the team they have THIS YEAR hasn't done anything even resembling "big".

I agree that by using reason and objectivity Ohio State isn't the best team in the country.

FWIW(little), Lee Corso was on local radio last week, and he said that A) He watches a lot of college football, and B) that based on what he's seen with his own two eyes, he claims Oregon and Oklahoma are by far the two best teams he's seen...

Fair enough, but we may never know if that's true or not. But in 19 days, may I be so bold as to suggest that KU will get beat by Mizzou, and then we'll know.

Now then, if the unthinkable happens (~shudder~) and somehow KU does beat MU and then goes on to beat OU in the Big XII championship game, I think they'll have a compelling arguement for playing for the MNC. I also believe that they'll leapfrog those teams in front of them in the current BCS rankings, and that hell will have frozen over.

If this situation plays it self out, then KU has every right to be in the MNC game.

Sorry, but playing a JV schedule isn't going to impress the pollsters.

Hawaii is undefeated with similar SoS to KU. They ain't getting into the Championship Game either.

They're both shitty SoSs, but 106 is NOT similar to 160.

I'm by no means a BCS expert but my inclination is that W's over Mizzou and Okie to finish up the year would be enough to jump their numbers into the 2 slot. Mayhap a BCS junkie can confirm/refute that.

Bad wording on my part. You're right, I don't "know" that OSU would beat a major player - I merely think they'd have a better shot than KU. And like I said, I do factor in a little bit of forecasting into my rankings, whether fair or not. Teams like OSU have won the battle of the "benefit of the doubt" over programs like KU because of their gawdy tradition of winning. Tressell's staff and current-era program have earned themselves the benefit of the doubt over once-in-a-quarter-century "programs" like KU football, that have been fortunate enough to string together a few wins. Sorry Jhawks, that's just life in the big city. If Mangino can string off a few more seasons like this one, he'll start to earn that very same treatment the bigdogs get. 'Course, if KU had eye-popping wins and OSU didn't have any, then that'd be enough to put the JHawks up there. But all things being relatively equal??? I'll take Sweater Vest's guys...some of whom have played in a MNC game.

Hey, like I said this is just based on what's happened up to this point. KU has got some big games coming up, and if they win, I might have to re-think some things. We'll see.

Texas could very well be the most underwhelming 2 loss team in the history of college football.

We will probably squeak by our last two opponents and likely face a ACC team in the Gator bowl.

talk about a weird season.

Yep, sorry got beat by a Kentucky team that has folded and they have struggled for a month now. Based on the SEC's record against noncon BCS schools I don't think struggling and barely pulling out choke job games, even in the SEC, is overly impressive. Sorry if I don't buy the SEC hype.

I won't lie... name recognition.

And I wasn't ignoring the board. I had some serious issues with both of my vehicles in the same 24 hour period so I didn't make it into the office much this week and I had left my lap top there as well so not internet junkie stuff at the house.

Wow.....same posts in two forums....I never ever used the word "pro"...stop misquoting me or just stfu....I said "favor"...meaning the sag usually has many pac 10 teams near the top. He actually has the SEC rated teh best conference. Not sure what your point is....but it sucks regardless if you can't even quote me properly. Continue on, O bitter one....

biased, favor, pro...aren't we just arguing over semantics?

That is what I couldn't figure out...SEC is rated #1 but yet you come with that take...

bitter? Me? nope...buckeyes are #1...playing some pretty good football and so we lost in the MNC game earlier this year...great...this year was supposed to be a sort of rebuilding year...but we lost 5 defensive starters and got better on defense, and lost a ton of offensive players and I would argue our offense is rounding into better form then last years...what is there to be bitter about...keep bashing away...again that's cool...if tOSU gets to the MNC game and wins...great if they don't so be it...I am not on the field so what could I possibly do...

enjoy the Chic Fil A Bowl...
