PFW’s 10 free agents to watch


1. WR Randy Moss, New England Patriots

New England won’t shell out top dollar for Moss, but he may decide to remain with the Pats, regardless.


2. SS Bob Sanders, Indianapolis Colts

Look no further than a healthy Sanders as the biggest reason for the Colts’ defensive turnaround.


3. DT Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans

Vilified in 2006 for cleating Andre Gurode’s face, Haynesworth is now abusing O-linemen the right way.


4. CB Asante Samuel , New England Patriots

Immune to being franchised again, Samuel will have a hoard of suitors longing for his signature.


5. LB Lance Briggs, Chicago Bears

Equally abusive to ballcarriers and automobiles, Briggs has been better than teammate Brian Urlacher in ’07.


6. RB Michael Turner, San Diego Chargers

LaDainian Tomlinson’s understudy is too explosive to remain a No. 2 option in San Diego.


7. OG Alan Faneca, Pittsburgh Steelers

Faneca didn’t get the extension he was seeking in Pittsburgh, so it’s nearly certain he’s gone in 2008.


8. TE Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts

The versatile Clark is a better bet to receive a long-term deal in Indy than teammate Bob Sanders.


9. LB Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens

Despite sagging sack numbers, Suggs is on pace to set a career high in tackles.


10. CB Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders

Rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks, Asomugha has yet to nab an interception after eight picks in ’06.



I believe Oakland will re-sign Scrabble, so I think you can effectively take him off the list.
At least I HOPE that is the case.

If Sanders hits the open market, the Colts are going to lose him...someone will overpay for him. He should be #1 over Moss because he's got way more of a future. I think Moss will return to being a poison if he ends up on the wrong team. Sanders would help every team...who doesn't want an athletic safety that is great against the run and the pass?

For the Lions, the both tackle positions on the offensive line, adding another athletic playmaker at linebacker and pretty much the entire secondary needs to be addressed. Of course, Millen will draft another skill position player on offense and pretty much waste all early round picks on players that have injury problems.

Sanders, Samuel, Briggs and Suggs would be on my list out of that 10.

I don't see the Steelers signing any of those FAs. Nor do I want them signing Moss, Haynesworth or Briggs because they are nothing but potential cancers waiting to happen.

Of the rest, they don't need Clark, Turner or Suggs as they have comparable or better players at those positions already. Sanders would be an upgrade over Anthony Smith RIGHT NOW. But I don't see the front office bailing on him or his upside just yet. Nor do I want them to.

I would love to see Faneca resigned. But not if it means overpaying him. Let Arizona do that.

The two guys it would make the most sense to sign are Samuel or Asomugha. Both would be substantial upgrades over Deshea Townshend or Ike Taylor. The only question is, will either take a deal that would allow the Steelers to remain cap competitive? I seriously doubt it, so I don't expect either to be wearing Black and Gold next year.

Sorry! 9-0. On our way to 19-0 and a top five pick in the first round. I will re-visit in February....

If Moss has any brains at all, he'll take whatever he can get and stay where he is.

He could get more elsewhere, maybe, but, dude can collect jewelry and lucrative endorsements if he stays put.

That being said, he's never been known for his thinking abilities. It will be interesting to see what happens.
