U&L is "up and left." Was kind of a play on some crappy troll called Look Up and Left, or some stupid crap, and I morphed the "Upper Left" slang for the Northwest into "Up and Left."

Of course, there's two main regions in the U&L, which are divided into sub-regions. There's the Good Part, which is the area north of california and south of the Columbia, and there's the Bad Part, which is the area between the Columbia and the canadian/Upper Mexican border... you know, where the cousin-fucking ubertards live in trailers.

In the Good Part of the U&L, you have two distinct regions on either side of the Cascades -- you have the Wetside, and the Dryside. Washington has two similar regions -- the Shitty Part, and the Shittier Part. Pretty sure they have exhorbitant sales tax in both parts of Warshington, and neither has tweekers running out to pump my gas when I pull into the gas station.

the sexual habits of peace corps volunteers in southern africa are fairly interesting. the first year you're so scared of hiv you settle for the company of reasonalbe english and the chance to bitch to other volunteers about your sexual frustration. the second year you notice everyone but you has five or six local girlfriends to go with a host of worries, and by everyone but you i mean my girlfriend lived about two, three hours away, which is right around the block in african time, so i wasn't subjected to the same depravities as most others were. i suppose that means i can avoid quarantine in baltimore.

thanks for the primer. i'm actually moving back to oregon at the end of the year. i'm tired of living in the midwest and listening to ppl here say "ore-ah-gawn." i'll sure miss the natural beauty of chicago, though. sometimes visibility is above one mile, though that's usually the string of red lights i see parked ahead of me on the edens.

i had those thoughts while in anne arbour, all those trustafarians driving around and the subsequent wish that if i had to deal with that sort of hypocrisy at least i could be back in eugene with the oregon coast nearby.
