Houston Chronicle says. kind of meh hire if i'm an Ag. but, been at aTm before as an assistant. NFL retread, etc.

on the "sports journalism" angle, this paragraph is kinda funny. mentioned by whom....? if by "in connection" the writer means had no interest at all...then sure, i'll buy it.

"Auburn's Tommy Tuberville, California's Jeff Tedford, Boise State's Chris Petersen and West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez were mentioned in connection with the A&M job, but indications are Sherman was A&M's top choice and really the only coach pursued."

I think this is a bad choice. I think it will end up for four years of mediocrity I hope not but I think so.

I'm kind of stumped on this hire for A&M. I figured they would try to hire a big time coach to try to get themselves to some kind of national prominance. Sherman may be a good coach and do good things, but from an outsider it almost looks like they settled. I really doubt any big name coach most Aggies were drooling over would have taken the job, but this looks like a reach. Only time will tell, but then again have the Aggies ever really been a top tier school, minus a few good years during the early 90s?

Seems like an OK hire. I wonder if the Tuberville thing getting blown-open so early screwed it up. I would actually have preferred Houston's OC from last year-Calhoun. He has done wonders in his first season at Air Force. I would like Neb to look at him. Though he could be a hard get since he is an Air Force-grad. He didn't go leave a NFL-OC job to coach Air Force as a career-move, he did it out of love of the program. Granted Calhoun isn't as big a name as Sherman due to Sherman's Green Bay experience. But Calhoun has shown the ability to win at the college level.

ATM's search didn't last long, I'm sure they had this one ironed-out before Fran "resigned". It will be interesting to see what hires he makes and schemes he brings to the table.

I try not to doubt nfl hires since Pete C. Who looked like more of a potential failure at time of hire than him?

I'll take the wait-n-see approach.

i wish a&m would've poached ferentz so i don't have to worry about him stealing debord's rightful gig.
