Greg Robinson gets 638,441?
I am absolutely certain you could have gotten a crackhead off Salinas Street in to do the same job he's done for bottle return money.

Um, that Weis fella has done less than Ferentz...Ferentz has at least won a BCS game and he should get some credit for taking Iowa to an elite bowl period. He is overpaid when I see that Tressel makes less than him but Weis has done the least on that list of 15 guys that are still coaching and yet he's making more than guys like Carroll, Tressell, Brown and Fullmer, who each have national titles to their credit.

I wonder what their source for Paterno might be. At any rate, Joe's salary will be "disclosed" soon, as the result of a recent legal decision.

i used to think to myself "why oh why would the state of pa keep joepa's salary such a secret when it's STATE LAW that state salaries must be disclosed?" then i realized if i was paying some diaper-wearing circus clown over seven figures to run my university's football program, i'd want to keep it a secret as well.

Wrong, as Schmick pointed out.

Not saying that Weis isn't overpaid, but he at least has one more BCS bowl under his belt than does Ferentz, in a much shorter period of time.
Btw, once upon a time (and I know I'm dating myself with this info), ND had a rule that the head football coach was not paid more than the highest paid professor. A nice idea in theory, but to put it back into practice today would preclude ND from ever landing a marquee head coach.

And when Holtz was hired, he couldn't make more than the president of the university who, as Lou points out, was a priest who was sworn to a life of poverty.

from a mac perspective, it's pretty embarrassing the "cradle of coaches" pays their coaches a fucking pittance. i bet miami has the largest endowment of the mac (i.e. the "harvard of the midwest" self-anointed title) and they pay worse than eastern. i know they've been spending a lot of money on facilities and all, but maybe this is why their coaches start kicking ass at bigger programs right away. charlie coles is the worst paid coach in the mac as well for basketball.

After some research......
"Meyer signed a 6-year contract extension with the Gators on June 7, 2007. The contract pays an average of $3.2-million per year, making him the fourth-highest paid coach in college football—behind only Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, and Charlie Weis, respectively."
Those desparate Bama fans.....and ND fans....

Huh.....two of the top paid coaches didn't do very well this year....its a reflection of how bad those fans want to get back to the top....overpaying people.
It is what it is.....now what.....bama is in my dome?
I am unable to comment on anything?????
Is someone else logging in as you. Your posts have seriously been sliding. That weis/killian et/elliot thing is still going on.....*sigh*

8 Ohio State Jim Tressel $2,450,000
What justifies this high a rating with that pitiful schedule? Oh shit... wrong thread.

Are you kidding? With that joke SEC West lineup, plus Vanderbilt from the East, plus a crap Sun Belt team, plus a I-AA school...
...he
still couldn't get above .500.
Oh yeah, and his offense looked about as skilled as Notre Dame's in the game he was hired to win...against Auburn's worst team since 1999.
Laugh it off if you want, but that's damn near impossible to do.
Don't worry, though. The $4,000,000 coach has got something up his sleeve for next season, something Alabama fans haven't seen in years:
They're going to score an offensive touchdown against Mississippi State.

on Paterno, just the first few sentences:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Joe Paterno's salary is no longer one of the most closely guarded secrets in college sports. The Penn State coach will earn more than $500,000 this year.
The State Employees' Retirement System released Paterno's salary Thursday, more than a week after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that his salary and those of other top Penn State officials are public information.
Paterno was paid $427,220 in the first 10 months of 2007 -- putting his year-end salary on track to be $512,664. He was paid $490,638 last year, according to the retirement system.
the link at the top of the page shows 2 mil a year.
PSU,tell me pops makes more than 500K.

Been told that it DOES NOT include money from the athletic dept and/or endorsement deals(shoes, sunwear, etc).
Bowden made ONLY $250,000 last year....the rest came from other sources.

NEWS FLASH: Tuberville's new "handshake" contract bumps him up to 2.7 mill but he wants the 6 mill buyout clause removed.
He has an OOC road trip next year at WV; first since Georgia Tech in 2003. Hope he earns his raise that day.

This has been an interesting issue.
For years, there has been a back-and-forth about disclosing Joe Paterno's salary. It has finally been announced. The salary the university pays him is not the entirety of his compensation. I think that after all is measured, the 2 mil. salary is probably closer to his real income.
Joe is close with a couple of PSU folks that are absolutely stinking rich. I think that with their help over the years, Joe's got his thumbs in a lot of different pies.
Anyway, this recent flap came about because PA has been trying to come into the modern era with Right to Know. In 1992, the Harrisburg fishwrap requested his salary be disclosed. It went to the state court, and they ruled that the salary had to be disclosed because there was state money involved. By involved, I mean that Joe has a state-funded pension. The football program pays for itself.
PSU appealed unsuccessfully. The recent ruling was that they had to disclose the salary. The original request was for a number of administrators at the university, not just Joe.
You see, PSU and three other PA schools (Pitt, Temple, and Lincoln) have a special exemption to PA Right to Know laws. Those organizations are "state-related". Therefore, they didn't have to disclose salary information. PSU has kept faculty and staff salary info under wraps for a long time...in an effort to avoid bidding scenarios for profs and admins. My dad is a PSU prof, and they tell them that they cannot share their salary details.
PSU gets around 10% of their operating budget from PA. Sounds minimal...but this year, that is over $320 million - not chump change in a cash-strapped state.
Whoever threw the request for Joe's salary to be disclosed in with the others knew what they were doing. Joe is a marginal figure in this. He said that when they asked him for his salary initially, he had no problem revealing it. The Uni admins stepped in and told him not to do it. By throwing Joe in there, the story in football-crazy PA is that they are "pestering Joe" about his salary. The issue is far larger than what Paterno makes, but expecting your average fan to understand that is a little much. Therefore this whole thing is framed by Joe and his salary...which isn't really fair to him, at the end of the day.
Bottom line is, PA has a lot of financial crap to deal with. Many organizations that use state funds have real issues. The only was that ultimately these things get ironed out is for there to be transparency for these organizations. I myself don't care what Joe makes, really - but I am definitely interested in a fair application of Right to Know laws, and for overall government transparency and accountability. Every inch forward for those things is a good thing.

I dont know if that is true but Bowden is wanting a raise.
Which is pretty damn funny considering back to back 7 win season, 4 straight losses to the gates and losing to a horrible canes team.

Bowden just got 2.5 million for the 2007-08 season
