Lose 3 games and beat #1 team in country 2nd to last game
or
Play in chump conference and go undefeated, play NOONE on the road in OOC and your in

Mizzou got screwed...should've be in the Orange Bowl over Kansas.

I don't understand how Mizzou was ranked #1 and loses to #9 Oklahoma and is out. West Virginia was #2 and loses to an unranked team in Pitt and is in.

West Virginia won the Big East...they were in regardless.

guy from SI was right, just decline your title game.
Ku deserved nothing.
Illinois deserves nothing
BCS is what it is, shit. remember, BCS was going to take 2 loss(before aTm game) tejas over KU and MU if the lost to OU.

I will agree.
Mizzou lost two games to the same team "a championship team" MU beat Kansas head to head, MU deserved the BCS slot.
Great season for MU though and definitely something that can be built upon.

The BCS is designed to try and match up the top two teams, and that's all it's designed to do.
Once that happens, the BCS conference champions are all slotted to their respective bowls, and then it's the remaining bowl administrators' task to make appealing match-ups, which they do in a draft from the available at-large candidates. Match-ups with stories that can be sold to the general public of casual fans (ie, viewers), and more important ... potential advertisers.
A one-loss, Cinderella Kansas gives them a story that can be sold to the country with promotional legs.
In a year of extreme chaos, the system did its job.
It worked.
While I think OU and USC are the two best teams right now, both had opportunities to finish the season atop the BCS poll ... and both failed. Neither deserves the title game, and I have to begrudgingly agree with the OSU/LSU match-up.

Missouri getting FUCKED by the BCS proves yet again that conference championship games do NOTHING but screw the best contending teams in those conferences- the Big 12 title game has fucked OU, MU, Nebraska, and K-State since this clusterfuck of a league was formed 12 years ago.

My bad...I thought in '03 they got screwed into a lesser bowl game.
In fact, the only time I can think of the conference championship game costing a Big 12 team a shot at the title was KSU.
In '96 Nebraska was I believe the #1 team in the country and Texas beat them in the Big 12 title game (Priest Holmes' primetime debut, remember?).

It's
how you lose, Nix. That wasn't pretty, unless you're into devastation.
When you lose like that, you don't have much of an arguement and are just grateful for whatever leftover scraps are seen fit to toss.
Let's just hope we can win our Bowl game.

Agree. Mizzery got screwed by the Bullshit Chump System. Kansas does not deserve to be in a BCS game. Playing a weak ass schedule should not be rewarded. And they lost to Mizzery.

No, Mizzou finally played like Mizzou. Fact is neither KU or Mizzou belonged in every other bcs year. Neither team beat anybody, yet the conf. is getting paid. Take the money and stfu!!
KU is normally pleased with bowl eligibility, stay the course here. Mizz should have kept the CCG reasonable if they wanted to play with the big boys.

One of the best calls of all-time.....fourth and three and they faked the run and threw it to a wide open tight end. great call.

Mizzou beat two of the teams in the BCS. Their losses were to a team in the BCS. No other team in the BCS can say that.
I'm not overly homeristic, in fact I'm satisfied with Mizzou's stellar season, but my content nature doesn't mean I should suffer your stupidity.

Mizzou definitely got screwed. KU's "one less loss" shouldn't make up for the fact that Mizzou beat them head-to-head, had a win over a quality, Rose Bowl-bound team out of conference, and appeared in its CCG.
Not to mention Mizzou vs Va Tech is a much more interesting match-up, in my opinion.

Again ... this is not the fault of the BCS.
At this point in the season, none of your reasons have any merit. The bowls simply take the teams traditionally contracted to their venues, and then draft from the remaining pool of eligible teams.
The Orange Bowl wanted Kansas, and that's all the reason they need. It's always been the same for every bowl out there, we've just allowed ourselves to become blinded by the "BCS Bowl" label.
While the BCS bowl designation sounds real important and stately, it's just a way for the rotating bowls to not feel left out when it's not their turn to host the title game.
Sure, it means a little more money for the school and the conference, but that's it, and feeling pissed off because you're not headed to play the Hoakies is a bit ridiculous.
Mizzou had a great season, and I LOVE the Cotton Bowl match-up with Arkansas. Once everyone stops feeling slighted by the Orange Bowl invite, I think you'll agree that this is a much more appealing match-up than Virginia Tech would have been. Aside from OU/WVU and the title game, this is the bowl about which I'm most jacked to watch.
Seriously ... Va Tech and Kansas is a snoozer. It will be an interesting game for fans of both schools, but little more. Mizzou, on the other hand, gets to face the single most exciting player in college football, and gets to do so in a venue that's an easy drive for fans.
Point is, stop blaming a system that has nothing to do with the situation at hand. The BCS is designed to match up the title game, and it did that.
Be pissed at the Orange Bowl, but thank them at the same time.
You're in the better bowl.

I don’t think they rotate the Championship game any more. It’s always at LSU.
Pat Forde has a good column:

OK, it's not ALways at LSU:

You're right, orc. Still...
In this era, and even under this farce of a system, BCS bowls are how good teams are measured...whether fair or not. Whether logical or not. They're the benchmark. BCS bowls not only guarantee you hoards of cash, they guarantee your program big time exposure which does wonders for recruiting.
This is why the general public will still argue over who "got hosed," despite the fact that the bowls are free to select whichever at-larges fit their agenda best. These are mutually exclusive things.

It's simple.
1. Kansas is not as good as Misery.
2. The XII was going to get 2 teams into the BCS.
3. VaTech's tragedy is a story.
4. Misery would dry-fuck the Hokies.
5. VaTech has a punchers chance at beating Kansas.
6. VaTech BCS win is good story.
7. Misery got fucked.

And of all people, Mack made that call.
Not Mack Brown. Not John Malkovich. But John Mackovic.

And without that play and play call, Scuba Steve has nothing. Florida owes Mack for that one.

Absolutely agree, MGO, but the finger-pointing should begin and end with the Orange Bowl ... not the BCS poll, committee or system. Aside from the national championship game, the BCS bowls are nothing more than a money grab. We, as fans, have fallen for the sales pitch, too. Like Indy stated, I think MU would roll VT ... and that's not what the Orange Bowl wants to see. KU/VT makes for a good story, and both teams match up pretty deece on paper.
While everyone would prefer some type of playoff, we should also give some credit where it's due. In a chaotic year, this is the correct choice for a title matchup. That's all the system was designed to do and, in this case, it worked.
