June Jones rips Tebow

If any of you saw the interview with Jones and Rece Davis, June Jones basically said Tebow is a system QB and could not run another offense because he isn't accurate(huh?) or a natural passer. He then insinuated that Tebow is "average". Rece called him out asking him to "explain" his comments. Wow, just wow.

Uhhh.....June.....hey June......you will see FIRST hand next year as Hawaii plays in Gainseville in our first game.

Like we needed any bulletin board material.

I already can't wait for next season.

I'll have to agree with REX (wow)

The whole "system QB" thing is fucking stupid. Every coach has a system, every player goes to each school uaually because of said coach.

Tebow and Brennan both fit their coaches system. Would either be as effective if they had to run the other offense? Probably not. But that doesn't mean they are a bad player because of it.

The whole "system QB" came about because dumbass GM's drafted the Andre Ware's and Klingler brothers of the world and were shocked when they didn't average 500 yards a game.

And Brennan isn't a system QB? I see Tebow throwing for about 450 yards on the Warriors next season.

Man, Hawaii sucks. What a joke. Sure, they're undefeated, but it's only because of that horrendous schedule. Good god, they really suck. What a crappy team. They don't even belong on the same field as ANY real team, much less an SEC Powerhouse, because they suck.

Man, Hawaii sucks so badly, we should put their AD's office on speed-dial.

Fuggin' SEC.

Coaches will be coaches - and therefore, they'll say stuff that will make you shake your head from time-to-time.

This should be an entertaining matchup now.

All joking aside, I'm shocked Hawaii is coming that far into the mainland for a game. That's a long fucking flight.

Is the deal with Hawaii a home and away? If it is then props for ballsy scheduling. If not then meh. A Brennan-less Hawaii away from home will be nothing special next season. Hawii's huge home-field advantage is a blessing but is a bit of a curse in terms of getting national respect. Major teams don't want to go there. Them being non-BCS desn't help matters. A fair amount of big names think they are above visiting a non-BCS team, even one that packs a stadium.

That is pretty stupid of Jones though. My guess is he's trying to reverse the "system qb" label some will throw on Brennan to undermine Tebow's Heisman candidacy. Giving Florida and Tebow a reason to hold a grudge when you have to go to Gainesville is definitely a bad idea. College ball has been using dual-threat qb's that run a lot for a long time. Do all these guys fall under the system qb label then June?

I agree with the guy. The Florida receivers make some amazing catches and Tebow just simply does not put the ball where it is suppossed to be very often in relation to the guy making the catch.

There's a difference between accurate and completion percentage.

Floriduh homer doesn't realize this. Fact is I have seen ALL but one game Florida played this season and UF's receivers are unbelievable while Tebow is a glorified fullback.

Glorified full back?

Huh? Dude broke all the FLORIDA STATE HIGH SCHOOL PASSING RECORDS before Mavre.

I thought what Jones said wasnt that he didnt think Tebow would be as good as Brennan in Hawaiis system because he wasnt as accurate with all the throws.

Did you not see my post that there is a differency between accuracy and completion percentage, or do you just not want to address it?

June was on Rome, or one of the ESPN shows yesterday.

Tough spot for me, since Junebug is my man, the original run-and-shoot guy, who basically put Portland State football on the map(kind of) and precipitated a move up a division, kinda-sorta. He can't really do any wrong around here.

But he didn't really apologize, but explained he was making a point(which we all understood), and was taking up for His Guy. He also explained he thought Tebow was a great player who would lead his team to another championship before he was done.

I understand what June was doing, and I agree with his reasons for doing it.... but I strongly disagree with the way he went about doing it... he doesn't need to use any freaking names of any players to pimp his own guy for Heisman(which Brennan fully deserves). I think he was just flustered with the whole "system QB" thing.

But June ain't stupid -- he just helped promote next year's game, and maybe even this season's bowl, and probably improved recruiting by his blind devotion to his players.

dins: Agreed. You don't have to tear someone down to prop your guy up. Terrible for a coach to say.

kill: The guy has threaded some needles and has great touch on the deep ball.

Sudden Sam wrote:So you're a Mouse Davis fan?

Uhhhh, ya'think?

My high school, where he refined the R&S, had to build a large trophy case to hold the harware Mouse brought. That was before my time... One of my older buddies played for Mouse for a year... against Stan Brock, he recently informed me.

Mouse was one of a long line of bigtime coaches at my school. I had busted up knees, and never played football in high school(never played hoops for the school, which pissed the coach off, since I could clown any of his varsity gaurds, and often did when I took basketball in PE class every year). There was a guy for a short time after Mouse, whose name I can't remember apart from Gentleman Jim. That gave way to the Ron Linehan era.

Yeah, that Linehan family.

Coach Linehan's much-younger brother used to come and be our teacher's aid back then... but mostly hung out and played flag football, and that sort of thing, which we'd do at the drop of a hat(Coach would even let us block and play with real lines, under the agreement that no one could get hurt, and if they did, they kinda had to keep their mouth shut).

And lo and behold, that goofy kid who wasn't that much older than me but could pretty much school everyone on the gridiron now prowls the sidelines for the St Louis Rams... small world.

My old school used to be a dynasty -- now, they're a doormat. Kinda hurts.
Are you a Jerry Glanville guy nowadays?

Of course. If for no other reason, dude is funny as all hell when he does his weekly bit on the local hard-rock station's afternoon show.

He once talked of retiring as Portland State coach on August 28th... so he could retire undefeated and claim BODE on Mouse.

Funny, funny guy.

And I didn't make it to a PSU game this year... shame on me.

It's on a consistant basis. I'm not saying that the kid isn't a good passer. I'm sure he will get more accurate as time goes on. For example, Brady Quinn's completion percentage probably dropped between his junior and senior year, even though he got more accurate. He lost weapons and catches that Stovall made in his sleep, McKnight couldn't make or would flat drop.

He may thread a needle here or there this year, but I would wager by his senior year there will be more needles threaded and more difficult pass plays called because of his improved accuracy.

I think that 51 TD's is more a result of not having a bonafide #1 RB. I think if Meyer gets the guy he wants in the backfield, Tebow's rushing TD's will go down drastically.

I agree with your overall point. The kid is a stud. In the next two years he will make drastic leaps and bounds as a passer. In baseball terms, he will stop being a thrower and start becoming a pitcher.

Just heard the kid on sirus coaches show and I came away very impressed. Sounds like he's well grounded and a good kid. 51 TDs......that's sick..................

^^^^^^^^

should be interesting at the Heisman ceremony then...

the only thing I don't like about tebow is his antics after scoring in many cases (and that can be SAID FOR A LOT OF PLAYERS)...I just wish these kids would act like they have been there before...hand the FUCKING BALL TO THE REF and get back to the sideline...

again I know Tebow isn't the only kid guilty of this...

I agree Tebow is a sick, sick talent...almost Vince Young like and still maturing...WOW...

Tebow might be a talent, but his girl appears to have more talent than he'll ever dream of.
