Brett ...... who?

Brett Favre was an excellent choice. Racketboy can be Tennis Player of the Year.

Being the Best Tennis player when you have no real competition just makes you the best tennis player.

When Federer can win at the same level he is winning at now when he's 38, even without 15 years of being slammed to the ground 25 or more times a season by 250 pound linemen, we can talk.

You gotta Rack FarvRuh for this years effort.

I have a hard time seeing someone who keeps getting punked at the French Open as Sportsman of the Year. Besides, this was the perfect time to honor Brett Favre. He's resurrected his career, passed Marino's TD record, maintained an absolutely amazing streak of consecutive starts and is QB for a team that is a contender to make the Super Bowl. I have no problems with the Favre pick at all

The clay surface is not a benchmark for tennis excellence. Sampras never won there, Jimmy Connors, and McEnroe never won there. Learning how to slide and recover, slide and hit at the same time is a separate skill set from actually just learning how to play tennis.

Most clay court players don't do well on the hard surface courts where the ball moves faster. Borg did well there, but never won on the hard courts.

Borg won at Wimbledon and Roland Garros and he had 4 runner-up finishes in 5 years at the US Open, losing to both Connors and McEnroe twice. Agassi won the career Grand Slam. Connors also won the US Open when it was held on a clay surface. In fact, Connors won the US Open on all 3 surfaces it has been played on.

Federer will probably go down as the all time winningest player in ATP history. And he's done damn well on clay. He's just not going to get Sportsman of the Year unless he can take down Nadal on Nadal's "home" court.

Grass is not a hard court, Borg never won in Australia either, and Federer has two in two years at the French. big deal. first loser.

but never the french.

That won't matter. The only Male tennis player to win this award was Arthur Ashe, and it certainly wasn't for playing Tennis.

Federer is 26. Sampras peaked at about 28-29, McEnroe at about 25. The likelihood Federer will develop dominating clay court skills diminishes with every year from here on out.

The Federer haters act like he is not successful on clay court. Sure, Nadal is the best, but Federer is arguably the second best on clay. He took down Nadal in that clay court tune-up two weeks before the French Open and ended up finishing second to Nadal at the French Open. I am sorry, but three firsts and a second in the GSs constitutes Sportsman of the Year IMHO.

There's your standard for a guy like Federer. LeMond did something no American had ever done that year. For a fringe sport, you have to do something so monumental that it can't help but grab interest. You know, like beat Nadal in Paris.

IOW, totally dominate, which Federer does not do.

Rumple second best, no matter how you try to spin it, is still "loo-sah".

Yes.

As for the French, Nadal (already with 3 French Titles) is going to, IMO, go down as one of, if not THE, greatest clay court players of all-time.
He shattered the consecutive match win streak record on clay a couple of years ago, and he's all but unbeatable on the surface.
It's Federer's 'bad luck' to be trying to win the French when this guy is in his way.
And even as that is, Federer has been SO close to beating Nadal at the French a couple of times.

Federer is the most dominant athlete in the world.

And he does it with grace and class.

Sportsman of the Year.

Sure have. Plenty. Tennis lessons were Mom's babysitter in the summer months a couple of times. I'm quite familiar with the game of tennis, and at one time was pretty decent at it. But now, I'm a grown man who makes his own choices, and I choose to not be a fucking homo.

I've also played a boatload of ping pong... and I won't be watching that on TV, either. Of course, I'd watch ping-pong before I'd watch tennis, since watching ping pong doesn't make you a fucking faggot.

Some would say that it's not a choice.

watching ping pong doesn't make you a fucking faggot.
And neither does watching tennis... or golf, or billiards, or bowling, or motorsports, or softball, etc.

Did you have a valid point you were trying to make here, or just blowing smoke as usual?

I loved watching John McEnroe when he was in his prime.

This doesn't really even need to be pointed out to anyone with a clue, but tennis is a very difficult game, and it takes a superb athlete, both mentally and physically, to play at a high level.

Don't lie, Goobs.

I despise AI, and just about any TV show in that vein. Actually, I despise all network TV other than sports, news, and weather.

Oh, bullshit, Whitey, you confessed to watching it several months back. Yeah, you blamed it on the fact the person who wears the pants in your family ('sup Whitey's "wife") had the remote, but you offered commentary on the contestants. Faggot.

Go back and find that thread, moron. You'll find a different story. Keep trying to make shit up. It makes you look like an even bigger tool than you already are.

Wait, why don't you go Google up a nice, fresh, tuna toodle casserole recipe instead? Talk about being a faggot, what other recipes have you Googled up? Do you make brownies for the boy scout troop before you try to molest one or more of them? How many boys have slept in your tent at one time, Gooberstain? And quit fondling your junk while you relish those memories like they were almost yesterday, you sick fucktard.

I tend to watch... sports. Lots of sports. But no faggot sports... ie tennis, cycling, swimming/diving, or singing for recording contracts.

Oh, please. You talked about how your wife wanted to watch that show. Because she had the remote in one hand and your testicles in the other.

I recorded the NFL Network Injury updates segment Sunday morning as I had to make a run to the hardware store. I came back to playback the show and the existing recorded list on the DVR was Oprah, Desparate Housewives, Bones, The Bachelor, Brothers and Sisters, and 48 Hours Mystery.

I don't think Wags' wife has him by the balls as much as my wife does.

I have watched AI, with young ms smackaholic, kind of a father daughter bonding thing.

I loved watching the borg/Mac wimbledon wars. Since then, I must rate watching men's tennis as slightly more gax than AI.

Have watched golf, but, not much of that lately either.

Have not and never will watch much neckcar though. When I wanna watch racing I will drive up too stafford springs with the rest of the white trash uhhh I mean sportsfans and watch the real deal. Racing on TV sux nearly as much a pong on tv, I suppose. Don't know for sure though as I have never watched pong on the tube.

I'm not a big tennis guy. I'll catch a Grand Slam final here and there if I've got nothing else going on, and I do enjoy watching Federer play (particularly Federer v Nadal) despite having "played" the game probably a total of ten times in my entire life. I wouldn't have a problem with him winning an award I don't give two shits about. But if given the choice, I'd take the Wrangler Man.

You'd have to take a few manly steps above watching tennis to be considered "gay."

Speaking of women, have you and the roommate yet decided each other's gender roles in the household? I'm guessing you're the bitch since you can't shut your fucking mouth.

I like the part about Momsdale trying to fag-up wee little Dinsdale by enrolling him in tennis lessons.
But at the age of accountability Dinsy sniffed out the scam and broke free from tennis fagdom forever.

Now he lives with another man and is a message board spellchecker ....... part time.

Stories of success and anti-faggotry.

Momsdale? BWA!

I can see it now. The voice from upstairs:

MOMSDALE: NORMAN! Time for your tennis lesson!

DINSDALE:Mother, PLEASE...!

MOMSDALE:You understand, boy? Go on, go take your lesson my son! Or do I have tell them you won't be coming because you don't have the guts! Huh, boy? You have the guts, boy?

DINSDALE:Shut up! Shut up!
