Maybe because he's losing his qb?
Maybe because he's so "afraid" of being the 1st worthwhile OOC team in SEC history?
Maybe because he is getting island fever?
Maybe because he foaming at the SoCal talent pool?
Maybe because he is lobbying for a better deal at Hawaii?
Maybe because he needs a ladder to re-enter coaching in the league?
Who the fukk knows.
It's all entertaining now that at least we are looking....
Duke considering Dorrell confirms again they are strictly a hoops school.

Don't you think he made his comments knowing that he wouldn't be around there next season?

Briles was hired on at Baylor and now Jones could be headed to UCLA. Mizzou and Tech have gimmicky offenses and I think they are the only schools in MCs that have those types of offenses. Both programs have had some success with their systems, so I don't see why Briles or Jones (if he is hired at UCLA) can't succeed as well.
I know the boosters/alumni wouldn't be all for UCLA goin 8-4 every year and a bid to the Troy-Bilt Multi-Purpose Leaf Blower Bowl, but its hard to deny that these systems don't have moderate success. I think Briles is a good fit at Baylor, but I think Jones ought to try a school like Duke

i don't get Briles to Baylor to be honest. he's a Guy Morriss clone except he's in Texas already.
all those traditional SWC rivalries UT fan likes to talks about are rocking and rolling. there's a reason no one ever cared about the Cotton Bowl. same as it ever was, when they play UT they are trad rivals when they play some other team (like OU, for instance) they are patsies.
war paperclips.

IMO Jones would be a solid hire for UCLA. DeWayne Walker seemed like a respectable DC. If they could keep him with Jone I think UCLA could have something.
Jones is just striking while the iron is hot, can't blame him for that. As far as his offense goes, it wasn't so long-ago folks said Meyer's O wouldn't work on the big-stage.
I can't see Duke hiring Dorrell. They'd be better-off taking a shot with a unproven guy than a guy that has just proven to be mediocre. Mediocrity won't get things going at Duke.
I know I'm playing Nebraska Ballsucking Homer here but Duke might be well-off going for Turner Gill. He has the right guys back to complete the turnaround at ex-abomination Buffalo in '08 and set himself up for a BCS-gig like a Syracuse or Arizona, or NW. He'd likely jump at the chance with Duke this year. Whether he'd succeed at Duke I don't know but he's shown the ability to get a trainwreck headed in the right direction. Which would be a good sign for a Duke. He's shown potential. Which is more than I see in the Dorrell hire.
Considering the low likelihood of success they may have trouble getting the better non-BCS coaches to look at them.

Mike Leach also reportedly spoke with UCLA.
Column: Why he'd be a nightmare for the Pac 10.
Good read.

As with Jones I'd say Leach could do big things with the right D-staff. From what I understand UCLA's admission-requirements are a hindrance but I'd say there is still more potential there than in Lubbock.

Dan, I'd love to see Leach in LA.
If, for nothing else, to be an agitator.

after the lax scandal at duke, hiring dorrell would strictly be a pr move to show the country that there are no racial tensions there. if you're going to hire a shitty coach, at least get something out of the deal.
Are you kidding? David Spade is more black than Karl Dorrell

I think Gill has a chance to get a much better BCS job than Duke, if he's patient. Syracuse would be absolutely stupid not to offer the guy. In fact, they should have done that this year.
As for Duke, football is little more than a diversion until basketball season there. That having been said, they'd be nothing less than ecstatic if Dorrell managed the same W-L record there that he did at UCLA.

Ya if Gill is patient he should see a solid offer next year. Definitely better than Duke. I think if he'd had another year at Buffalo to complete the turnaround the Neb coaching-search may well have ended differently.
But if Duke went after him this year he'd probably take that job. Who knows, could be their Jim Grobe.
