I think the first paragraph of the story on TSN.ca explains it all...
I thought it was unusual that they'd give up a promising player like McDonald considering they've got a lot of money tied up in their defense with Niedermayer back in the mix. I think this trade works out great for the Blues in the longterm atlhough McDonald is having an off year so far. I think the absence of Selanne has been affecting him. Bertuzzi hasn't fit the bill as that veteran scorer. Getzlaf has emerged as the #1 center on that team and perhaps Weight can something similar to Adam Oates when they added him a few years back in their first run to the finals. They need a nice veteran presence up front for that team albeit for the expense of one of their better young players.Doug Weight is on his way to the West coast as the Blues have traded the playmaker to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Andy McDonald in a move that will free up enough cap space next season to allow Scott Niedermayer to make his return to the Ducks.
