The DPRK is talking about Wegmans?

Post by BSmack »

First off, if you're not from the Northeast, you probably have no idea what a Wegmans is. But Kim Jong Ill does. Or at least his lackeys in the North Korea Times do.
Wegmans Food Markets, a 70-store grocery store chain based in Rochester, N.Y., has developed a cult following from many nationwide.

If you're with Von's in (Los Angeles), you've not only heard of Wegmans, you've probably flown to Rochester to look at some stores, said Brad VanAuken, chief branding officer with Brand Cool Marketing in Rochester. Everyone -- Krogers, Publix -- has heard of Wegmans, and they treat it with a kind of awe.

Its clean stores -- which feature a large variety of foods, cooking classes and gourmet flourishes -- have developed a type of mystique among those who have shopped there in the past as well as for shoppers who have only read about megastores.

Relocated customers -- or those who have just read about the company that puts the customer first -- flood the company each year with thousands of e-mails and phone calls asking that a store be built in their community, reported the Albany (N.Y.) Times Union Sunday.

Exactly when did Wegmans start adhering to the principles of Juche?

I’m fairly confident that there’s a regional chain in the U&L that will blow the doors off of Wegman’s.

Either that, or through some diligent research and a process akin to that of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," it'll be shown that Wegman's roots are in the U&L.

Great company-- if only the NoKo's copied their employee relations plan !
My younger son works at the Ithaca store part time for the bennies.

I don't see any reference to the "U & L", but I probably didn't read enough of it.

Very funny considering that Danny Wegman's purported cocaine use is a very popular urban legend in the Rochester area.

There is though absolutely no truth to the rumor that he tried to use his Shopper's Club Card to score an 8 Ball.

I thought the same thing, except that urban legend :winkwinknudgenudge: isn't limited to the Rochester area.

No chance of ever seeing a Wegmans in Kansas City. Not after they see this sign.

And yea, Danny's known all over the Northeast as a combination of Dubya and Pablo Escobar.

If I was him, I would be too. It's not like he's gonna run out of cash anytime soon.

They are expanding all over the Philly area-- except for actually getting into the heavily union-controlled City of Philadelphia market. Sucks to be living in that city these days.

Wegmans opened a great store in State College. They can't get a sniff of Pittsburgh, because Giant Eagle has them locked out.

How did they lock them out? I know you can't swing a dead Browns fan in Pittsburgh without hitting a Giant Eagle. But one has to think there's room for a Wegmans Superstore somewhere in the Pittsburgh area. Is it a union thing?

Krogers
Huh?

Sin, the upper midwest.

Never been to a "Krogers." Been to Kroger plenty of times, though.

Kroger disappeared about the same time Safeway did around these parts. I grew up shopping (and shoplifting) at Safeway.

Now we're left with Sunfresh, Hy-Vee, and Price Chopper.

Of course, I'm not about to spend more cash than is required on a can of Chunky Soup, and do all my grocery shopping at the local Wal-Mart Supercenter.

And save the Wal-Mart bashing* 'tards, but if you spend up to 33% more on basic necessities than what you have to out of some sense of misplaced loyalty, then you need to have your head examined.

*that ought to start a veritable shitstorm

The one thing that I sincerely miss about CNY (besides my parents) is Wegmans. Their stores are REALLY that fucking good.

oh, and while we are on the region topic, crapchester is not the northeast.

where is the border? i dunno. maybe the hudson river. new england is in the northeast, albany, maybe. NYC is, well, it's just NYC. It is bigger than an actual region. crapchester, imo, is more midwest than northeast. ofcourse, midwest is a rather vague term, as dimsdale himself has stated that everything east of where ever the hell he is, is midwest.

I still think Rochester has the Northeast feel to it, Syracuse definitely oozes the Northeast. Buffalo feels like a Midewestern town to me.

No, that site for foreign consumption. They randomly grab filler articles off the wire and stick them up to occupy morons. That came off 'Big News Network' via UPI.

And it's two years old.

Midwest is:

-West of Pennsylvania/Ohio border, extended north/south;
-East of Western border of states that line up in the center of the country, from North Dakota to Texas;
-North of Mason/Dixon line; and
-South of Canada.

At least that's my definition of it.

Hint: The reference to the U&L is not in the link, but it is on the board. And you don't have to look too hard to find it.

Who cares how old it is? That Kim Jong Ill's foreign propaganda service is pimping Rochester's premiere capitalist enterprise is just plain funny. Maybe not as funny as Kim feeding Hans Blix to his pet sharks, but it's still funny.

I'll be anticipating the grand opening of the Pyongyang Wegmans in 2020.

I doubt a wegmans or kroger or stop and shop or any other chain would go over too well in the democratic people's republic because of one minor technical problem.

You need some fukking food to put on the shelves.
