The playoff advocate's best case scenario...

Putting aside team and conference loyalty, it seems like the following scenario would create the best argument for a playoff (as if this season hasn't already succeeded at that)...

BCS CG: LSU wins ugly.

Fiesta: Oklahoma wins big.

Rose: USC wins big.

Orange & Sugar: Doesn't really matter who wins, as long as it's by a sizable margin.

Agree? Disagree? Thoughts?

I'd say this season already has been a playoff advocate's best friend. Regardless of how the bowl games play out from here.

Can we make sure Notre Dame doesnt get a few million dollars of the playoff pie in years where they dont qualify for it?

Hawaii winning isn't going to matter?

Don't be silly. They're Notre Dame, they're special, the rules are different for them.
The catholics need all the help they can get...

Exactly.

That is the biggest thing. Hawaii wins and the "they hadnt played anybody" card goes out the window.

Only undefeated team, yet a two loss team has the MNC

If Kansas routes Va Tech, do they get in the argument?

Yeah I don't think there is any bowl scenario that makes a better case for a playoff than this season has already done. The only way the bowls would constitute such a result is if we didn't have the BCS--and instead had the old bowl system where we maybe end up with three or four 1-loss teams with no discernible difference. The winner of the MNC game will have enough clout to lay reasonable claim to the NC w/o any discussion of what could have been.

We didn't have an upheaval after Boise won last year....no one said they were NC as opposed to Florida.

Simply saying a bunch of upsets/blowout = a need for playoffs is not enough.

The winner of the OSU/LSU game is the national champion. Period, end of discussion.
Unless, of course, the AP votes a different team #1 at the end of the season. In that case, the OSU/LSU winner is the BCS National Champion, and the other team would be the AP National Champion. Both of which, incidentally, fall under the broader phylum of Mythical National Champions. Period, end of discussion.
