Anyone else get shitty presents?

My sister-in-law and her boyfriend, who last year got me a pair of sweats, hooked me up with a pair of slippers that are about a size and a half too small this year. Maybe it's just me, but if you're going to buy something like that, wouldn't you inquire about the size of the giftee's feet first??
I wear a size 12 and you know what they say about us guys with big feet...we need big slippers, dammit!!
Worst part, other than the fact that I *don't* need a new pair of slippers and rarely wear them in TX anyway, is that they not only didn't keep a gift receipt so they could be returned, but couldn't even remember which store they bought them at. Should have thrown one at each of their domes.
I told my old man that my 5 y/o son would love anything Transformers or Spiderman-related. I talked to him later and he said he logged on to Amazon, typed "Transformers" into the search box, and essentially buys the first transformers-related gift that he could find. It was pretty expensive ($100 incl shipping) so he probably thought he was hooking the kid up.
Turned out that what he bought was a limited-edition Optimus Prime wallhanging. Uh...oops...
Him: "What is it, daddy?"
Me: "Uh...it's art."
Him: "What do you do with it?"
Me: "You look at it."
Him: "I'm gonna go play with my new ($5) Buzz Lightyear toy."

Mom and pop (sr.), bless their hearts, mailed some gifts over here to the east side of the globe for my wife and I.
Wife received a nice red sweater.
Noticed that mom nestled the ol' JC Penney receipt into the bottom of the box.
...... in case it needs to be exchanged for size correction.
bwaaa ha
Good ruck wit dat, wifey!

We did a Secret Santa exchange at work. I got a $20 gift card to Meijer. It had about 13 bucks and some change on it.

Unfortunately, in addition to the swim fins for feet, I have rather smallish hands, which equals out to an average-sized hog. Everyone update your spreadsheets...or not.
On the flip side, for whatever reason, my son ended up being exceptionally well-endowed (the OL and I refer to him as "Dave Diggler" when he's not around), which the OL naturally says has nothing to do with my gene pool whatsoever. :brad:

No shitty presents for me this year.
My parents and wife worked together to snag me THREE freaking "Mystery Science Theater 3000" DVD sets, including the rare Volume 10 (it got recalled shortly after release due to the Godzilla episode that didn't have clearance from whichever Jap company owns Godzilla's rights...).
I was also given the "Planet of the Apes" movie collection. I grew up watching those flicks and dug 'em big time. Now I can warp my sons' minds. I can't wait until my three-year-old busts out with "Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"
I got some other stuff, but nothing as cool as the MST3K or PotA DVDs.

Didn't get one, but I played a Wii for the first time yesterday.
I really don't see what the big deal is. I was expecting something a little more advanced. It was a step or two above the "Power Pad."

Who gets presents from their sister-in-law? Of course, it will be shitty. It's the law of diminished returns.
Call me a cheap bastard but no one outside of my immediate family should expect a gift if you're over the age of 18.

I only get a present from/for her because she's there when we open presents at my MIL's house.
Personally, I'd rather forgo the exchange, since she clearly knows nothing about me or my likes/dislikes and doesn't even bother to call my OL to find out what they are. The OL and I at least make an effort to get her something that we know she'll like.

My in-laws gave my wife and I some cool shit, but they also slipped this thing in our stocking stuffers that I, for the life of me, just don't understand the attraction.

I got a remote lightswitch turner onner/offer thingy from a relative. It actually has a remote, and a wall plug part for the light or appliance. The remote is nearly the size of a TV remote.
I guess that way I can carry it with me always and when I come home and the house is dark, I can turn on the light from outside, so I won't be skeered.

For me, quality was okay, although quantity left a little to be desired. I got a ND stadium blanket and two ties. That's it from the wife and kids.
In fairness, we've sunk quite a bit of money into the new office already, so I had been considering that an early Christmas gift.

I made out pretty good on the giving part.
The wifey wanted a new watch, and gave me a list of preferred types. #1 on her list was $390 in mid November.
By Mid December it was $175.00
On Xmas eve, they were blowing the shit out the door. I got it for $94 bucks.
Now I have $194 to spend on meself. :)

Nice!
A few years ago the OL asked for diamond earrings for x-mas. She's very picky when it comes to diamonds

and jewelry, so I knew I'd have to drop some serious $$ or just not get them at all. I went to the mall in November and the pair I wanted to get were two-fukking-grand. Uh...no.
I had just about decided she was getting a bathrobe and a new toaster, but decided to go back on Christmas eve and found that they'd dropped the price to $500. Thank you very much.

And you dropped 5 bills on the counter with talking them down another hundie or two? Just as an FYI to all you "gentlemen" out there... much like a car, there's a whole lot of wiggle room when purchasing jewelry. No check out line when purchasing...
anything = you're getting talked down or I ain't buying shit.

I bought them at Helzberg's, who have a "no haggle" policy. Doesn't matter to me, as they have sales all the time and I've bought from them several times during their sales. The salespeople at most of the stores are really cool about telling you that they've got a sale coming up and that you should wait if you can...that kind of thing. They also have MUCH better stones than a lot of the "haggle" places that I've been to, which do crap like call yellow diamonds "champagne" diamonds and act like they're just as good as colorless/clear diamonds.
Helzberg's also gives you the color/clarity/weight certification gimmick for each of the stones they sell, which is a big help for someone like me who doesn't know much about stones and what they're worth.
Also, I loathe any haggle places, with the exception of car lots, where I concede that it's just part of the process. I can do it, I just don't want to if I can get just as good of a product somewhere else for a comparable price without having to spend an hour with some slick-haired douche who's just trying to talk his way into a bigger commission.

Mike, speaking of MST3K stuff, I have a couple of pieces of the original set tucked away in storage. A couple of years back, I was given some mini-statues of Servo and Crow. I also got a DVD set this X-Mas of the latest release...don't have the number in front of me.
Damn that was a funny show.

Yeah, I know you think my gifts aren't as cool as the latest threads from "Build-A-Bear Workshop" or the latest chapeau from the Reynolds Wrap haberdashery that you probably got, but they make ME happy.
By the way, fucknut - I'd argue that anyone that will defend conspiracy idiocy regarding 9/11 for pages and pages, year after year, on a freaking chatboard is a bigger dork than even the biggest middle-aged, basement-dwelling, Star Wars/Star Trek/Pokemon/World-of-Warcraft loser.

I got four shirts, which I really needed, a couple of really nice ties (except I hardly ever wear ties), a new wallet and a casual sport coat. A bottle of nice wine from the bro and sister in law.
Oh, yeah, a nice Wusthoff carving knife which I actually bought for myself and let the OL give to me. I needed it for Tuesday's prime rib.

Christmas was all good at my house. Got the Ken Burns baseball documentary DVD set, a 3 DVD set of When It Was A Game, a couple of coaching books that I wanted, a book on the 1919 World Series (supposedly the real story of the Black Sox, and a book about Hank Aaron. No ugly ties or cheap socks.....or my mother-in-law giving me cash and telling me what I was going to buy with it.....it was all good.

they have had several of his documentaries on PBS. I have seen the baseball one, and it's pretty decent.

I've never recieved a "shitty" present in my life. I've been flattered to recieve every last one of them... which this year consisted of 2 beers. They were 22oz imports, though... SCORE!!!

Considering that all it would have taken was a two-second phone call, in the same area code no less, to find out if I already had a decent pair of slippers (I do) and what my size was, they basically just bought something cheap that is unusable and unreturnable (they don't know where they got them) and slapped some wrapping paper and a bow on it. That sucks, IMO.
I'm
normally extremely grateful to receive ANY gift. Hell, I'm the guy that got a wooden top made by my grandfather at age-freaking-14 and acted surprised and grateful. I did the same when I got the shitty slippers saying, "Thanks" and telling them that if I wore them without socks I could get them to fit (a bold-faced lie).
So save your lump of coal crap for someone else.

I need to amend my statement, and include a hearty "fuck you."
About 40 years ago, I was given the rather shitty gift of mild dyslexia. And I still misspell less words than most.
Any time there are lots of vowels in the middle of a word, particulary two in sequence... forgetaboutit... all looks the same to me... unless it's two consecutive O's (sup your moms after they met Dinsdale)... I can usually nail that one.
