every mock draft I've seen projects that KC's first pick will be this guy.....

Ryan Clady offensive tackle-Boise State 6'6" 317 pounds....

he's a monster and would be a great add to a less than stellar offensive line......while he's a junior, most think he'll declare for the draft....for him there is nothing to be gained by staying in school for another year....really nice kid-quiet and unassuming....

he's got upside to burn.....

are offensive linemen the Chefs first priority?

IMO, absolutely the O-line is where they most need help and it's not even close. Anything would be an upgrade at this point.

Michigan has supposedly got a guy we should be looking hard at.

And I'll just have to say that even though Bowe has been decent, Scott was right and we have should taken OL Joe Thomas with that 1st pick last year.

I agree with Wags' take for the most part....but this team just has SO many holes to fill that when they pick their #1 (which will be anywhere from #4 to #9 depending on what happens Sunday at the J-E-S-T) they should pick the best available player, regardless of position IMO.

38 players were taken in the NFL Draft.
Of those 38 only 9 are currently on the Chiefs' roster.
Of those 9? ONLY 4 OF THEM HAVE MADE ANY REAL CONTRIBUTIONS.

Errr.... Joe Thomas was a no-brainer pick but he went like 4th to Cleveland. Joe Staley was available when the Chiefs went 49ers grabbed him- so was Ben Grubbs who went to the Ravens,

Which is why he'll probably be looking for a new job at the conclusion of this season (we hope).

His strength is run blocking...the majority of Mike Hart's great runs this year were through holes created by Long and Adam Kraus. He's a decent pass blocker...doesn't get beat all that often. Check him on New Year's Day against Florida and see how he fairs against Harvey and Cunningham, a couple of athletic edge rushers.

Another thought might be a QB - if Matt Ryan is available, but I don't he would make it past Miami, Atlanta or the Ravens

One thing is constant - the Top 4 rated picks on all the mocks I've seen are Dorsey, McFadden, Ryan & Long

For a #1 QB in a draft guy, Ryan's arm is nothing special, he's not that fast, and he doesn't ooze athletijizzum at all.

I agree with Pops on Matt Ryan....hell, there isn't ONE QB in next year's draft that I'd personally burn a #1 pick on, PERIOD. The Chiefs have far too many needs other than at QB, and for my money if Jake Long isn't there then the kid from Boise State Felix mentioned should be the next guy on their checklist at LT....unless there's a "can't miss" corner there at that pick...or a defensive tackle....or a safety....FUCK. :brad:

I'm not saying Ryan will not make a good NFL QB.
He might.
In order to get proper value, I just think that if you're drafting in the top 10 of the 1st rd you need to get a QB with more upside than he appears to have.

Draft O-line, try to put together your overall line before next season.
It's painful to face, but next year is gonna be a year of putting pieces together for KC.
The line will still not be fully together yet -- or it might still be a lot worse than that.
There's no pressing need to fill the QB spot now.

Let Croyle have another shot at it next year, with more seasoning under his belt and perhaps a better cast around him.
He didn't look that good this year, true, but nobody's gonna get laid driving their dad's '92 Malibu around town.
If Croyle truly sucks next year than go after your QB.

Oakland may be looking to deal Russell by then.

A LOT of course depends on if the current front office and head coach (again, if there is a GOD please tell Clark Hunt to run ALL their asses out of One Arrowhead Drive....PLEASE?????) remain, but I'm going to assume that they will so here's how it looks to play out to me.

Huard is here for at least two more seasons, and if Croyle can't rip the starting QB job again in '08 then surely CP will have worked diligently to rebuild the shit offensive line. The ONLY offensive linemen that should be retained for '08 are Brian Waters and Damien McIntosh...C Casey Wiegmann is going to retire (inside info, BTW), RG John Welbourne is a fucking turnstile and will be cut, and as of right now we really don't have any true talent at RT. Hopefully Jake Long falls to us, CP can somehow make Alan Faneca a VERY rich offer to start at RG here, and they can move McIntosh to RT and work current rookie lineman Rudy Niswanger out at C.

Eddie Kennison AND Samie Parker won't be here next year, so it is CRITICAL that they either find a proven vet WR on the free-agent market and/or draft a guy like Jordy Nelson out of K-State.

I'd LOVE to see them somehow lure Marcus Trufant from Seattle, but they'd be STUPID not to franchise him. Bob Sanders from Indy was a hope of mine as well, but Indy was smart to lock him up to a five-year deal yesterday. Beyond that my brain is fried and I need to hit the rack so I can resume this refreshingly straightforward football discussion tomorrow.

Faneca is old - so your looking at a 0ne or two year fix at best.
Not a bad idea if the team is close to competing for a championship - which we're not
In our Chefs case - it's pissing money away.

I was thinking about QBs again - and as mentioned Ryan is the first off the board in every pre-draft right now.
Pops right about arm strength, but Ryan has that "Montana" type quality - ie; the kids a winner
Obviously he's a better fit in a west coast offense than a vertical

The other thought I had is that Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson may be available in Cleveland.
I don't see the Browns keeping both and based on play I don't see Anderson losing that gig.
If we're not in the Top 4, I'd see about trading down, grabbing another pcik then maybe make a play for Quinn.

Croyle isn't going to make it in the NFL..... unless he adds 20lbs .... and even then I'm not so sure.

Chiefs will either draft 3-4 or 5, and right now I'd say grab Jake Long or McFadden (trade Johnson for a low 1st if that happened)

That may very well turn out to be the case, but it's way too early to make that judgement. Rookie QB's typically struggle and look like dogshit, especially behind a garbage O-line and a RB core decimated by injuries. You remember what Elway looked like his first year?

That said and your opinion to the contrary noted, if Matt Ryan is available when KC drafts, they better snap him up. Huard is obviously not the future here, and Croyle might make a fine back-up.
