Pats-Giants game to be simulcast on CBS, NBC

Sounds to me like the good ol' NFofL got pressured by the likes of the free networks to show this potentially historic game to the NFL Network-less masses.

No, a bunch of Senators told the NFL if they didn't cave in on this game, that they would start hearings to yank their anti-trust exemption. You may now re-assume the position taxpayers.RevLimiter wrote:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3169075

Bullshit, they got more work to do on the Hill. Like the petition that bans soccer the the US, then and only then will this tax payer re-assume the position.

You can either assume the position willingly, or you can have your employer do it for you on a bi-weekly basis. Take your pick.Cueball wrote:Bullshit, they got more work to do on the Hill. Like the petition that bans soccer the the US, then and only then will this tax payer re-assume the position.

The funny thing with this "historic game", it probably won't involve a lot of the regulars on both teams...at least at the end of the game. I bet Brady and Moss play the first half just to get the Pats a lead and probably get their respective records and then we'll get heaping helping of Cassel or Gutierrez in the second half. Considering Belichik doesn't seem to like taking out his starters when the game is out of reach, I wonder how long he keeps them in for this game once they get a decent lead. If it stays close, does Brady and Co. play the entire game just to get 16-0?
As for the NBC/CBS thing, I spent the extra money to get the NFL Network on my cable...kind of feel a little ripped off. If you can't watch the game on your TV, just go somewhere that has it. Not to be rude but it's not my problem that everyone can't watch it. I understand why they did it but why didn't they do this with the Cowboys-Packers game earlier? Whatever...curious to find out how many actually watch this game since it'll be the marquee TV event on Saturday night.

Instead of taking it up the shute and whining about it, why not call your cable provider and cancel? I was on the horn the second the Dallas/Carolina game ended.Shoalzie wrote:As for the NBC/CBS thing, I spent the extra money to get the NFL Network on my cable...kind of feel a little ripped off.

The whole "antitrust exemption" threat from tards who like to hear themselves talk (sup Specter) is pretty funny...
Since there's been how many competitors to the NFL in the last 50 years?
AFL
USFL
XFL
There was another one in the 70's, can't remember what they called it.
Kind of hard to claim "monopoly" when several competitiors have existed, including the USFL who trumped the marquee player of the day, and several other top stars.
Since there is no monopoly, the Sherman Act doesn't apply to the NFL anyway -- but that won't stop traitors from stealing your tax dollars to promote themselves, even though there isn't even the slightest patch of ground to stand on. But hey, you benefit, right? So, what's a little theft of the taxpayers and another victory for Big Government when you get to see a game on network TV, right?

It was the World Football League.Dinsdale wrote:There was another one in the 70's, can't remember what they called it.
A monopoly is not the same thing as a trust. And anti-trust legislation does not only apply to trusts, it applies to many forms of restraint of trade. Tell me you knew?Kind of hard to claim "monopoly" when several competitiors have existed, including the USFL who trumped the marquee player of the day, and several other top stars.
Simply put, he NFL anti-trust exemption is what allows the NFL to act in restraint of trade when it comes to their dealings with television networks. The NFL pools their television rights in an attempt to limit the number of potential TV contracts, thereby inflating the value of the few TV contracts that are awarded.

You're right...I'll probably do that. The main reason I bought the sports tier on Comcast was because they moved NFL Network off the expanded package onto the sports tier. I dropped the 100 and 200 channels and got the sports tier instead. I'll watch FSC sometimes but I can do without the rest of it. The NFL Network is useless in the offseason...I can only watch the combine workouts so many times.

Same here. When I cancelled last weekend, the CSR couldn't believe I was cancelling before the Pats/Jints game. When I informed her it would be on local TV, she told me I was flat out wrong. We actually had about a 3 minute argument over it. Finally, I just had enough and kindly interrupted her. It went something like this:::Shoalzie wrote:The main reason I bought the sports tier on Comcast was because they moved NFL Network off the expanded package onto the sports tier.
"Stop being a dumb fucking cunt and just cancel it immediately. I don't want to argue with you anymore. Just do as I say, bitch…. or transfer me to your fucking supervisor. By the way, I hope this is being taped for your monthly Call Monitoring review and your boss can hear just what an incompetent fucking whore you really are. The minute I hang up, I am checking my account on-line to see you did what I COMMANDED YOU TO DO!"
She's lucky I was nice to her... because I was feeling the Christmas Spirit and all. I could have really went off on her and stuff...

Just like it's not my fault that Time Warner Cable and the NFL Network can't fucking agree on whether to put it on the basic or premium tier. Like I give a fuck if I have to pay a few extra bucks a month to watch football.Shoalzie wrote:If you can't watch the game on your TV, just go somewhere that has it. As for going out to watch it, fuck that noise during a freaking blizzard.

Well, considering I've got to deal with the Big Ten Network and Comcast not being in bed with each other, I get to miss a few Michigan games each season until they can get their shit together. Ultimately, we all get screwed by cable companies by making us pay for crap we don't want to watch and don't offer everything we do want to watch. I don't think I'll be alive to see the day we get 'a la carte' channel selection from our cable provider. I'm going to the dish once I get an HD TV sometime in '08...DirectTV has pretty much everything I'm going to want to watch.

Re: Pats-Giants game to be simulcast on CBS, NBC
I have Dish Network, so I get to watch on 3 fukking channels!!! That's gotta be a first in almost 40 years of watching.
I have been flipping between the 3. CBS was quickly ruled out as they have Bryant Gumbel. Fukk him. He sux. PRolly not as Badly as Musburger, but, it's close and as far as I know, Musburger isn't a complete POS as a human being. So, it's down to NFL vs NBC. Can't really say anyone is better or worse. Looks like mediocrity is pretty well spread across network coverage.
