Question about the Trojans

I've harped on USC a bit here lately and I'm going to just a bit further. What exactly did USC do this year to merit their inclusion into the top 3? Who were their "impressive" wins? As I go through their schedule I see exactly one game against a team that was truly a national power and that was in Eugene against Oregon.......they lost. They played at Arizona State and that is a pretty good win. Cal was struggling mightily when they played in Berkeley and of course Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Nebraska and Notre Dame were a joke and the rest of the Pac-10 is very average. And of course they have that loss to the banged-up Stanford squad at home. This team did nothing to deserve their post-season ranking....maybe somewhere near 10 would have been more appropriate. Look, I know it doesn't matter but playing an average schedule with a horrible loss does not equate to a top 3 final ranking in my opinion.

Most of it is based on reputation. If you put those qualifiers on a team like Kansas, they would have been top 15-20. But when you throw the USC name out there, they get more leeway. Also, people know that USC will not get blown out. While under Pete Carroll, they have lost exactly one game by more than one possesion. They've built up a lot of good will and haven't done anything (maybe the Stanford loss) to destroy any of it.

besides the fact that they hoard the talent in california, and have kids 3rd and 4th on their charts that could start pretty much elsehwere, and are well coached, it is a media thing.

east and west coast always looking for their media darling to sockle off of.

ESPN sockles so many nuts, you would think they would be sponsored by WE or oxygen!

I think it's a combination of results, reputation, and what SC was "capable" of. Once the injuries healed, SC suddenly became the most dangerous team in America. They just didn't get a chance to play anybody at that point. At least that was the pulse across the country from the people who actually vote on this stuff...and to be honest, it's hard to disagree with considering USC's recent history and overwhelming success. When you win THAT much, you sort of get the benefit of the doubt. OSU probably received a little bit of that treatment this year as well, based on what they've been able to do in the past.

It's just how it is. If the fighting Manginos can prove they aren't a one-hit-wonder, they'll soon start receiving similar treatment.

I thought it was funny too.

ESPN rode their jocks after they blasted the Illini.

Didnt understand why they were riding USCs jocks and not UGA or WVs.

WV had the most impressive win of the BCS. UGA and USC both beat shit schools. I give UGA the nod because the Big10 and Pac10 need to get over their precious "we dont want other schools winning the rose bowl so be dont invite them" tradition.

Fuck Kentucky for not beating ut and setting up a awesome SEC/National championship
Fuck the Rose bowl for not letting two of the best teams settle it on the field.

Man are you guys going to be pissed when ESPN moves their headquarters to across the street from Staples Center.... less than 3 miles from USCs campus

Or alternately, you might be pissed when you find out that you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

"Opening a new facility" and "moving headquarters" ... I guess I can see how a brain-dead douchebag could see the similarities in these statements, but to the non-tards, they're not the same thing.

I guess you missed that part of the news where they said "The headquarters will remain in Bristol."

Here's another question about the Trojans. You say if can't happen? Money talks and what will USC have left for 2008?
Falcons interested in interviewing USC coach Pete Carroll

By CHARLES ODUM, AP Sports Writer
January 9, 2008

ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Falcons are interested in Southern California coach Pete Carroll for their head coaching job.

A person familiar with the team's coaching situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Falcons want to speak with Carroll, who is on vacation in Hawaii. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Falcons have not officially met with Carroll.

Carroll spoke with USC sports information director Tim Tessalone on Wednesday and told Tessalone there are no developments worthy of comment.

"He reiterated that to me this morning on the phone," Tessalone said.

Last week, Carroll told reporters his name would be mentioned in speculation for NFL jobs. Carroll said then he wouldn't fuel speculation by making comments.

"There's nothing going on, no reason to even talk about it," Carroll said last week.

Carroll did not return a message left on his cell phone Wednesday.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank is looking for a coach for the second straight year. After firing Jim Mora a year ago, he hired Louisville coach Bobby Petrino. But Petrino lasted just 13 games before quitting to become the coach at Arkansas.

The Falcons finished 4-12, including a 1-2 mark with interim coach Emmitt Thomas, in a season overshadowed by quarterback Michael Vick's indictment, guilty plea and sentencing to 23 months in federal prison for his role in an interstate dogfighting conspiracy.

Atlanta, also currently looking for a general manager, might be willing to offer Carroll control of player personnel decisions. That could be enough enticement for Carroll to talk with Blank or other team officials.

Former general manager Rich McKay was offered a two-year extension to remain as president through 2010.

Philadelphia general manager Tom Heckert interviewed with team officials Monday.

The Falcons have interviewed at least three coaching candidates: Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and two assistant head coaches, Jim Caldwell of Indianapolis and Tony Sparano of the Cowboys.

The Falcons plan to interview Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith and Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Carroll has experience in the NFL as a head coach and as an assistant in addition to his tremendous success at USC.

Carroll, 56, was 6-10 in as coach of the New York Jets in 1994. He was 28-23 with a division title and two playoff appearances as coach of the New England Patriots from 1997-99.

He is 76-14 with two national championships in seven seasons at USC following an 11-2 record and No. 3 ranking this season. The Trojans capped their season with a 49-17 rout of Illinois in the Rose Bowl.

Their HQ is not moving. They're just moving offices and people out here.

I laughed.

So Mook, you're saying you honestly believe there are 8 or 9 teams that would beat USC on a neutral field?

Fuck college coaches going into the NFL for now. Bad move. Besides - Petey needs to make sure Pandora's box ain't opened up all the way out there. That'd really fuck up his legacy along with his vintage 1979 hair style.

Oh wait, Willie is a Falcon fan? Man would that suck for you to have Pete Carroll turn around that franchise, you would be the first one in line to felate him and run your fingers through his long hair, I guess you like your man crushes to have that 1949 "hair style"

Petey may be getting out while the gettin's good. On M&M this morning, they cited an article coming out about a book that is coming out about Bush getting "thousands and thousands" of dollars. Transcripts of secretly recorded conversations in it and all. We'll see what it all says when it comes out. And until they release said conversations, it is all hearsay anyways.

No matter, we all know they have been cheating their asses off. Just waiting on the proof to come out.

Cue the NCAA...

That "book" is written by Don Yeager, he of "Under the Tarnished Dome" and "It's rollin' baby, it's rollin'" fame. That book will have as much credibility as Trixie.

K,

That's why I said until they release the conversations, it is hearsay. I meant the tape of the conversations. Anyone can claim they did something. Concrete proof like audio, video and paper trails are needed to actually sanction anyone.

Based on his past, I highly doubt he has those audio tapes, or anything damning on them. He ran around claiming he had that shit and actual quotes from players for the Tarnished Dome book. Each player, to a man, came out after the book and appologized to Holtz saying that he (Yager) pieced together quotes to make things sound a certain way.

I would like to think that something will come of this, but I doubt it.

Reggie Bush signed his name for a hotel room that was billed to a potential agent's credit card.

Reggie Bu$h was at $C at the time. His signature is on some of those credit card slips. Consider it connected. Consider him guilty. What else will you be requiring?

$C is innocent because if I cry long enough I'll convince myself that Chetey Petey is honest and everything that happens at $C that's positive is because of him and everything bad that happens is because of a left wing, right wing, center wing conspiracy led by all the other football conferences, the refs, the fans, the trainers, the AD's, the secretaries of all the other schools because they're jealous of our success. Granted we only have 1 national championship in all those years but we should have been given everyone because we're $C and we invented college football.
