Big ups to Coach Knight on win #900

Say what you will about the man, most everyone does, but there is simply no denying how amazing of a coach he is. He just put up a win total that IMO will only ever be seen again by one other man, and that man just happens to be a protege of his. Now that he's at Texas Tech he is seriously outmatched in the talent department against the heavyweight teams yet he still continues to find a way to win through superior strategy, last night being a prime example.

In related news can we pretty fucking please with sugar on top stop having to hear about how there are chick ball coaches out there with 900+ wins. When Tom Brady threw for 50 TD passes this year did we have to hear how some fuckstick in the Arena league tossed eleventity million TD passes in a season?!? No because there is no comparison in the level of talent and competition, just as there is no comparison in the level of talent and competition between men's and women's hoops. This title IX/PC bullshit needs to stop.

Best part about it IMO, was before the hoopla over 900, Coach Knight made it a major point to congratulate and prop up the opponents, both for being a great team and "a great bunch of kids."

Because that is how Coach Knight rolls.

Even if he's about to go on a tirade after a loss and take his anger out on the media, he always starts by thanking and congratulating the opponent.

Ever so slightly off-topic, but kinda sorta related...

Oregon State. Basically, Jay Johns is completely incompetant. Yet he's talked a mean game, and already has excuses made up blaming everyone and everything else on the planet for his failures. One year it's the facilities, the next it's the AD's fault... he's got his bases covered. Now rumor has it (what fun are sports without the dreaded "rumors"?) that Steve Johnson, Charlie Sitton, and Gary Payton have had enough (since they're all big boosters). And rumor has it they've told the AD as much, and want him to explore the possibility of hiring Coach Knight away from TT.

Ain't gonna happen, but it sure makes for nice water cooler/messageboard talk.

Best part was this:

ESPN's Holly Rowe interviewed Knight on the floor after the 900th win, and just a few moments after a 46-word speech he gave to the fans, which included a backhanded compliment about "the seats being full for a change." Rowe threw him this polite softball for her final inquiry:

"Coach, I know you take great pride in being a teacher. What we saw you go over the game plan yesterday, that's what they did tonight. How gratifying is it that you really taught them and they executed it for you?"

Even in what should have been one of his finest hours, Knight the teacher could not shout down Knight the dark humorist/dictator, who chose instead to make a thinly veiled reference to the hide-chewing his players had averted.

"It's not gratifying," Knight said, "as much as it is just a damn good thing for them that they [executed]."
Dude cracks me up.
