I went to the bank during lunch to make a deposit. It’s about 10 minutes from work which makes it very convenient. As usual, I’m wearing a business suit and overcoat.

I’m waiting my turn for the next available teller. There’s a young brother at the far end of the counter discussing an obvious financial dilemma with a teller. Dude is wearing a coat and jeans. Young guy with means to have a job, but he’s disheveled and unkempt. Obviously do-less. Dude drops something on the floor and he reaches down to pick it up. There in front of everyone he reveals his trousers fastened below his ass showing his underwear. WTF?

And for some reason everyone is looking at me: the only other black guy in the bank. He pissed me off. The whole situation pissed me off. It was embarrassing. I heard the teller say she was unable to take care of his particular transaction. And as he strolled by to leave the bank dude looked at me as if to say: “What?”

“What?” Way to represent.

It was such an outrageous experience. I wanted to follow this guy out to the parking lot and challenge him: “Are you looking for a job? Why can’t you figure out your failure?” And, you’re correct; it’s not an issue defined by race..It’s attitude. Sadly, however it does reflect.

Dude, the hip hop culture, in it's efforts to be defiant to white social values, has reduced an entire generation of blacks to a clownish minstrel show. They have reinstituted the N word into their buffoonish vernacular and persist to perpetuate every negative stereotype imaginable. It's a shame.
