Aside from the ignorant racial slurs, what's the problem? Take away the n-bombs and the necks raise some valid points.

those might be valid points in a reasonable discussion about race, culture, poverty, self-reliance, etc., but someone who drops "mvscal" so easily isn't someone who's thought about these issues and from there chose a logical stance. "get a job" is not a valid point so much as it's ignorance. "ever hear of the classifieds?"

i'm sure they'll drop about 100 n-bombs for every perrilloux [spell] bad read or interception next year.

The painting with the broad-brush based on skin color rather than a person's deeds is a little much for me.

"We don't want any more N-bombs in the city," wasn't really adressing temporary housing, was it?

And basically... I'm a pretty long way from being politically-correct. I enjoy a good ethnic joke as much as the next guy, and I've never been above dropping a "nog" reference on an anonymous messageboard.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I see something of a difference between making tasteless ethnic jokes among "friends" (that I don't know) on an anonymous board where I deal with the same people all the time...

And getting loose in front of a camera before a major US sporting event.

If you want to make jokes about African Americans behind closed doors with your buddies... go for it.

If your "cause" is to alert the nation that black people are taking advantage of the temporary housing in NO and staying to long... go for it. Or if you want to adress their overall employment rate... that's what they made the 1st Amendment for, dude... knock yourself out. I doubt I'll spend a whole lot of effort listening, but if that's your calling, go in peace brother.

But when you're at a pregame tailgate of a game that the entire country will be watching, and you decide that the microphone provides you an excellent opportunity to drop your latest racial jokes... I'm going to laugh at you.

That's MY right.

Don't try and tell me those guys were trying to make some insightful political commentary -- they weren't.

Don't tell me those grown men didn't realize that a large chunk of their viewing audience would likely find their words offensive -- they knew.

And when you actually go that far out of your way to take a swipe at people you've never met -- you're a fucking idiot. And I'm going to make fun of you.

Kinda funny that SEC Sam doesn't see the problem, though.

Sagarin's latest fan ranking:

1. LSU Fan
2. Al Quaida Fan
3. Taliban Fan

It don't get any worse overall than LSU Fan.

Sam,

Drinking can make you do one of two things...be more honest than you would like or be more dishonest than you like. With regard to the subject at hand, I doubt they were being more dishonest.

i'd love to see a cost analysis of welfare benefits vs. oh, say, bombing the fuck out of the middle east. we could probably shelve a couple bombs, use the money saved to feed the entire 9th ward for three months, and then the rest of you hicks can pretend all your n-bombs are genuinely aimed at worthless scum and not broad racism. new orleans is your cart before the horse.

I don't use the n-word and I'm damn sure not a racist. I know more racists in Detroit and Dearborn than I do in Alabama. What I despise is the POSs ...whatever color they are ... who refuse to work, who destroy property, who accept handouts with no intention of ever getting off their ass. That, my friend , is not racist.

Hicks? You got a state full of 'em, M Club. Just as many backward-ass racists up your way than here.

New Orleans is being destroyed by thugs, shooters, meth, etc. Come on down and visit those folks you think are so great. Give em a hand.

Ain't it terrible that folks who work for a living and pay their property taxes and maintain their homes are fed up with people who don't give a shit about anything?
no, you're wrong. racism only exists in the south.

i'm definitely not advocating for welfare queens. i've worked in public schools and wish the lot would go fuck themselves. you can't absolutely discount the way a lot of them have been socialized - rather, you can discount how they've been socialized, not that they've been socialized a certain way - but that doesn't explain away the fact the end product of said process is generally scum. and yeah, it's frustrating that you have to work and they sit at home and watch telly, but two things: one, you wouldn't be happy with that sort of income; and two, most of your tax money isn't going toward some derelict's drug habit. the common refrain about i work so you can collect welfare is misleading, at best.

regarding the video, arguments that come from the same mouth that just let drip mvscal aren't valid, hence my quip about the horse and cart. perhaps legitimate points were made, but it's hard to digest them without thinking they've been made to justify an already-held belief.

Sudden Sam wrote: Excellent points. I have to agree with everything you said. Except the 'racism only exists in the south' line. Sarcasm? I certainly hope so.

I was letting what I perceived as anti-south and 'all southerners are racists' stances get the best of me.

Frustration. Maybe that's the way to sum up my feelings. No change for the better. I see more and more blacks sliding into thug culture...not less and less. I communicate regularly with a black, female professor at a southern university. She has been ostracized by her own family for advocating upgrading appearance (dump the low, baggy pants), getting a good education, not blaming whites for every problem, etc. She is passionate about the need for black students to study, rather than look for reasons to blame someone else for their difficulties. Everything she stands for, the gov't tears down with handouts (which you are indicating may not be as massive as I think) and assistance, where a little self-effort would be a better move.
of course southerners get hit with that stereotype. where in the north do you find people fighting for the right to fly the confederate flag on the state capitol? what side in the great war many southerners won't let drop fought on the side of slavery? where do we find most of our documented lynchings? where was the kkk formed? there are obviously racist dipshits everywhere - i went to high school in the michigan thumb: witness the michigan militia - it's just the south is associated with the sort of cartoonish behavior that allows the rest of us to point and laugh.

i don't buy this whole there's a difference between black people and mvscals argument. granted, i get what you're saying, or at least the type of person you're referring to, but there's not much consensus within the black community about its use other than white people shouldn't be using it. the word is racially volatile, and it's the rare black person who's going to overcome his/her immediate reaction and buy your caveat that, no, i think white people like that are mvscals too. and aside from caring about the clothes black people wear in their free time, yeah, your friend is right. i did my student teaching in detroit public and remember one student blurting out something about how her mother said she has to get twice as good of grades as white people if she wants to get into college. i told her she better start turning in her homework then.

as far as more and more blacks sliding into thug culture: a slippery slope? i mean, there are black ghetto youth, and there are also black middle- and upper-class youth. it's ghetto mentality that needs to be addressed, not mvscal attitudes.

Two Michiganders (military) retired in Alabama and opened a business where a buddy of mine worked with 'em for years. When the two northerners got here they thought all their employees were racists and were disgusted with the n-bombs being dropped daily. Took less than a year before the yankees were saying "N" every day.
People up north drop the N bomb more than southerners in my experience at any rate. Never heard the N bomb more than when I lived in Pittsburgh.

This thread makes me think folks in Omaha aren't too bad. You'll hear some N-bombs if you cross the river into the armpit of Iowa, Council Bluffs, but I rarely hear it here out of anyone here.

Dropping the n-word is for ignorant mutherfuckers-white trash and clueless blacks that think they are "taking it back".

Not using n-bomb to describe every black and/or not hating all blacks doesn't mean you aren' t racist it just means you aren't klan-level racist.
