Our State Dept. has been jam-packed with commies for at least the last 75 years- some of them 3rd & 4th generation by now. When the Experiment failed & Russia threw communism on the ash heap of history, they feel betrayed by that. Why would they do anything to help the new regime succeed?

I don't think a close relationship with Russia is possible. There is still enough of the "old school" that isn't too keen on the "westernization" of Russia.

The only time we'll have a close relationship with Russia, and any other country for that matter, is when their best interests and U.S. interests do not collide.

I think there are some in Russia that still think it's in their best interests to do whatever it takes to disrupt the pursuit of what's in U.S. best interests.
