Well isn't this just a fine pickle they've put taxpayers into now...

The debate over Africentric schools in Toronto is raging Wednesday despite a vote the night before by school trustees to approve a controversial step to help struggling black students with alternative education.

By a vote of 11 to nine, school trustees agreed on an "operational model" for a black-focused school.

The school would focus on the experiences and contributions of African people with a goal of discouraging students in the black community from dropping out.

What one group gets, every other group will be lining up demanding their handout next..

Good Luck Toronto, I don't see the fine pickle they're getting into as any better than the Big Pickle we already have.

There has been a similar effort going on with the Pittsburgh Board of Ed. "Remedial centers" will focus on the special needs of inner-city youth.

Also, individual Principals will steer a school in the direction of their choosing. My kids went to a public elementary school, and there were two principals in that time. The first guy was a older white guy who really was inviting to the middle white class families whose kids attended. His replacement was a young black woman whose focus is on underprivileged kids...whose time in school is one method of giving them a semblance of a family atmosphere. Entirely different sets of goals.

WTF is africentric? Are they gonna teach it in swahili? Are there gonna be any white devils as teachers or students? If so, they need to do them up in blackface.

It's kind of ironic down here where they built a new Dunbar High School in the area with a large population of people of black African ancestry. This was years after all the desegregation hoopla when the old Dunbar High School was closed down ! Is this progress ?

Absolutely. If local communites want to try different ways of educating their kids, it is preferable to the centeral government (or worse, the corrupt teachers' unions) deciding for everyone. If it works, great. If not, try something else.
