REM is releasing a new album on 4/1 and while i'm not an REM fan (except for certain songs off "green"), it was interesting to see two well-regarded indie bands open up for them. i was disappointed when i saw MM live in 05 (how the hell do you not play interstate 8 or never ending math equation?????) but i'd really like to see the national, preferably in a small setting. i can't imagine they will have the same impact playing at the fucking UNITED CENTER in chicago. but i bet their show at the greek in berkeley will be great.

What's the over/under on how many shows MM plays before something causes them to drop out of the tour?

They're beginning to rival AIC for cancelling shows. I think they schedule about two a week here, but I don't think they've actually played a local show in about two years or something.

The REM stuff that Mitch Easter produced was great. Fables was great too...mostly because the band was miserable. Everything after, i.e without Easter and when the band was relatively happy, is shit, IMO.
