Now, I'm thinking, Ha! This ought to be some stupid shit. And I clik'd on one song and then the next and instead of nonsense, to me, this stuff was creative, sounded tasty and was just damned good, listenable tunes.

Spray, you do much direct to PC recording? I've been toying with the idea. So much shit is so cheap right now. But I'm real unsure about what to buy.

I spent years using a DigiTech GSP 21 to model my sound, but the last few years I've gone way analog. I don't want to cheapen that sound with a bunch of fucking amp modeling. I've got a Marshall AVT20x with an emulated output. I just want to capture that tone.

Any ideas?

The GSP 21 is a Rack effect that I can get all sorts of shit out of. Still use it for delay, Compression, flange, etc. But mostly because it has an off the charts sound gate. Like I said, I've gone retro tone to my Jem through a Marshall with a Bad Horsie II inline. That's a pretty hard combo to beat. The rest is just some tweaking. I used the GSP for all the amp modeling previously, but just got tired of a "fake" tone.

I've been playing guitar since I was 10 years old and I rarely look at the guitar fretboard other than the 5-7-12 fret positions for orientation purposes. I picked up the guitar when I heard Mason Williams' song "Classic Gas." As a 5th grader, I had that song nailed. Then AC/DC came along a few years later and I got into the electric scene. I'll be buried with my Eddie Van Halen guitar as I'm not selling it.

'Spray is making this sound easy, but trust me, it's not if you're a novice producer like pretty much everyone here could be classified as. I don't think he realizes what he does (musically) is difficult.

Ok, Spray, now we're getting somewhere.

My Marshall AVTx20 has an emulated output, so I was going to try that route before Mic'ing and amp. If I do Mic, I'll mic the JCM800, not the AVT20. Problem is, a the JCM800 2210 I have is so fucking load to get to a sweet spot, it makes just recording some noodling impossible. Now, I can go the power brake route on the JCM, but I'm kinda of hoping to use the avt.

So, I'm stuck for an interface into the PC. And that's where my real questions come in. All the line6 type of stuff bundles so much damn modeling/effect software, it drives the price way up.

I'm just looking for a decent PCI/USB interface, and some recording software. I've heard some good and bad things about cakewalk.

I've also been looking at Guitar in a box, but again, it's real heavy on the effect side.

BTW, I get my bonus next week, so I was thinking of dropping a few hundy at Guitar Center, so if you've got some ideas, I'm all ears.


Oh, and technology doesn't scare me at all. I'm a IT guy. I get paid to explore software intricacies.

The thing that BS isn't "getting" is that putting it together isn't the real issue. It's the musicianship of creating Southern Rock that should be played in all shitty bars at least in the Southern states. I hear the influences and not many can take those and come up with original music.
