Uhhhhh, those would be contrails. Musta been relatively calm winds at that altitude... and higher than normal relative humidity, thus allowing the contrails to hang around longer than usual.

Ken was right. They are contrails and they are caused by water vapor off of jet airliners. The shapes are interesting to look at and even more interesting is that contrails work to cool our enviornment a little bit. When the airplanes were grounded after 9/11 this was able to be studied. Temperatures rose a little bit.
