fuck dude you get around. give me a review of nada surf. I downloaded Lucky but haven't listened to it yet.
even worse, another band i'm dying to see, spoon, is playing the vic in chicago the same fucking night. THREE FUCKING SHOWS. chicago is the greatest music city outside of nyc and philly is a very underrated third.

to be honest, i listened to lucky twice and i was so disappointed, i haven't bothered to listen to it again, and i love nada surf. it's like the light radio version of NS. it's very soft, very light with absolutely NONE of the addictive pop rock that made let go and the weight is a gift such phenomenal albums. i love all the different kinds of tunes the band has put together over the years and the way the albums evolved from high/low to the proximity effect to let go and to weight.

but when it comes to lucky, i can only paraphrase this guy:

Image

you're the people being negative. and some of the fans. fruit fly isn't walking through that door, always love isn't walking through that door, hi-speed soul isn't walking through that door, what is your secret? isn't walking through that door, blizzard of '77 isn't walking through that door, blankest year isn't walking through that door, and if you think that stalemate or paper boats or God and G0D forbid killian's red is walking through that door for lucky, they're going to be grey and old. what we are is young, exciting, hard-working, and we're going to improve. people don't realize that, and as soon as they realize those damn songs are not coming through that door for lucky, the better this town will be for all of us because there are young guys in that band playing their asses off.

there just isn't any ROCK element to lucky. none. it's all so relaxed. while i respect that element of the band (paper boats and blizzard of '77 are two of my favorites), lucky just hasn't grabbed me. i'll spin it a few more times before i go see the show, but i'm not holding my breath.

i still love the band. i'm amazed with how awesome let go and weight were that people only remember them for popular and at the tampa show my friend went to in october, there were only 150 people there. at the band's best, it's some of the most addictive alternative pop you've ever heard. at their worst, well, you get the soft rock stylings of lucky. too bad.

Understatement of the year. I gave it a try and it is all but unlistenable. Oh well, time to cue up something with a beat.

pretty disappointing a band who seems to have found its niche, and a good one at that, would put out something completely contrary to what had made them great. and this isn't even like post vitalogy pearl jam, this is like they were on their deathbeds and decided to put out an album.

i hope they keep the new album tracks live to a minimum. all they're going to hear is screaming for songs from the previous albums.

Well, rack them for taking the chance. Even if it sucks.

Peqarl Jams Greatest Hits.... ERRRRRRRRR, Ten was a beast in its day. Wore grooves in the CD back in 92, or whenever. And everything since then is nails on a chalkboard to me.

Brilliant.

Call someone else "ignorant," then put your math skills on display with Likes Ten + Hates the twaddle that followed = Def Leppard Fan.

Sheer brilliance.

See Screw, I was actually Alive when those albums came out, and it's hard to put into words what an incredible disappointment everything after Ten was.

Dude, just because your punky nostalgic ass wishes you were in the U&L in the late 80's/early 90's, wearing a flannel around your waist and grooving to the classics, it doesn't mean you need to live vicariously through shitty music.

But it's cool, S_M -- I won't call you daughter... I'll just call you a "fucking no-taste douche."

Pearl Jam followed the same relative path that G&R did. They released an absolutely epic debut album that rightly deserves airplay decades later and followed it up with a fair second offering and a whole bunch of unlistenable "more of the same" crap afterward.

i don't judge "amound of airplay" on if a band is good or not. never have, never will. and if you do, well, you can get fucked.

and douchedales, i too was ALIVE when ten came out. had it on cassette.

as we found out with ten, if you're breaking sales and billboard records with your debut album, it can be literally impossible to top the astronomically ridiculous expectations set for following albums. pearl jam could have kept producing albums like ten, but they chose to not to go down that path. and sorry to break it to you, folks, but versus was 10x better than ten. i'm sorry you losers are still hung up and even flow, alive, jeremy and black (which are all good songs), but blood, rearview mirror, wma, rats, and indifference set the stage for future pearl jam albums, even the post grunge ones.

stick to your steve miller albums, losers.

and bri, if you even knew what the fuck you were talking about, you'd know that every pearl jam album that has been released post ten is completely different from one another. no code is different from yield, which is completely different from binaural, which isn't even close to similar to the self titled album.

Can't say I ever was down with Pearl Jam. I'm more on the Dead Milkmen end of the spectrum.

What's with the torch your carrying for Eddie Vedder dude? I can almost picture you, tears streaming down your face and onto your keyboard as you mashed away that reply. It's kind of disturbing.

And just to get this out of that way, I'm not much of a Def Leppard fan. Though I do own a vinyl copy of "Pyromania" that I snagged used about 23 years ago, I think it's safe to say that it has not seen a turntable in at least 20 years.

Sorry, I'm just not down with the post VS Pearl Jam releases. I respect the fact that they have done more than most to deliver their live product to their fans without totally screwing them over. And I recognize that PJ was one of the first non jam bands to allow open taping of their shows by fans. So for that they have my respect. But no matter how much I may appreciate their politics, I can't say I like stuff that I've heard and found wanting. But, to be totally fair, I'll give some of their post VS stuff a second listen and get back.
