This one of those "real life is much easier if you simply comply with instructions" situations.
If the nice officer is pointing a weapon at you, it ends much better if you do what he says.
As for the 40K?
We have a bad habit in this country of paying the stupid

Does your Constitution come in two-ply?
'Cause you sure give it a beating wiping your asses with it.

The nice officer had no reason to tase the guy.
And $40,000 says it ended fairly well.

Are drivers required to sign traffic tickets?
What does signing the ticket mean from a legal standpoint?
What justifications do the police need before they can taze somebody?
What is the Capital of South Dakota?

The cop should have tasered him a second time just for being named Jared.

Solid point.

The officer was far outside response to resistance. Poor verbal communications with the driver. Jared was a jerk and often a cop has to deal with that. Attitudes on both sides.
And if the driver refused to sign the officer could simply indicate so on the signature line. It was only a traffic stop.

Remember, it's only twenty grand after the lawyers. Then it's taxed. That tax is given to...oh, forget it..

Judgments are taxed? I've heard different. But let's see what the legal constituency has to say.

Can we get a transcript of this. can't hear what the fukk is being said early on.
Did the cop at any point say, you will sign this, or I will arrest you? No. He just says get out of the car, then turns his back on him. Nice police work there.
He should have said, sign or I will arrest you. Probably would have avoided all of it.
Wish I could be judge on this one. I would sentence the cop to about 10 minutes of tazer and being fired. I wouldn't give the wise ass punk anything other than another tazering just for the hell of it. He shouldn't be tazered for being named jared. It is punishment enough. His parents on the other hand should receive atleast bamboo shoots under the nails for it.

If some motherfucker busts out a Taser/Gun/Club/ Flashlight and uses it over a traffic stop disagreement then said Police Officer should get everything coming to his pathetic ass. 40 grand is a skate.

Sure sounded like dude asked why he was being detained, which the cop refused to answer... a bigger deal should be made of that to begin with.
I don't understand the whole "signing" thing... they don't do that around here. It's in your better fucking interest to hang onto the citation, since it's got your court time on it... which is kind of a nice thing to know.
That guy has no business being a police officer. He should be charged with assault. Dude is a fucking freak.

The deal was announced a week after a Utah prosecutor ruled the Mr. Massey did not commit any crimes in the traffic stop, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. His civil case focused on the fact proven in the video — that the officer did not seek to arrest him before drawing and firing the Taser.
What was the question, counselour?
