I don't know if this is a glass dick or not but I didn't see any thread titles leading me to believe it was.

The Campaign Spot wrote:Ohio Democrats Talking Criminal Prosecutions For Violating Pledges of Party Allegiance

Rush Limbaugh has laughed in the face of legal threats today, reacting to overwrought charges that his tongue-in-cheek "Operation Chaos" — encouraging listeners to vote for Hillary — somehow violates election laws.

In Cuyahoga County, they're pledging an investigation.

In Virginia, it was a stupid idea when the GOP proposed it - and quickly abandoned it. But in Ohio, it's established law; to vote in the primary, you have to sign an affidavit pledging loyalty to the principles of the Democratic party. One caller told Rush of getting a big laugh at the polling place when he asked, "What principles?"

Rush points out the obvious:

They themselves [Obama and Hillary] have reached out to Democrats and non-Democrats to vote for them. Obama is running ads, or was last week in Pennsylvania urging Republicans to cross over, register, and vote. By the way, tomorrow [today, March 25] is the last day to do this in Pennsylvania. If you're a Republican and you want to vote for either Hillary or Obama to keep Operation Chaos alive in the Pennsylvania primary on April 22nd, you have to do this by tomorrow. You have to register to vote in the Democrat Party by tomorrow. But if I'm indicted, Obama has gotta be indicted, too, because he's running ads urging people to do this. They both need to be indicted, because they're both urging independents, moderates, Republicans to cross over and vote for them in these primaries.

Think about it - madly partisan Democrats want to criminalize those genuine Obamacans; if they are deemed to have insufficient loyalty to the party, they can be prosecuted and if convicted could face six to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Pledges of allegiance to the party? Loyalty oaths? Criminal prosecutions for disloyalty? Good time to write a book on that sort of thing...

What's the problem? Limbaugh was deliberately attempting to subvert the process. When Obama and Clinton ask for support outside their party, they do so with the idea that said support is in good faith and will carry over to the general election. That's not what Limbaugh is doing and to claim otherwise is idiocy.

Rush (who is a POS in my book in any case) excluded. I would think that is a violation of a sacred right as an American citizen; the right to vote the way you choose and see fit for whatever reason.

I don't think this suit is going very far. Proving causation in a court of law will be next to impossible.

However, this might give some impetus to reforming primary and caucus voting laws. IMO, if you want to primary/caucus for a particular party, you should be required to enroll at that time with said party. Furthermore, that enrollment should be enforced throughout that election cycle so as people who vote in a Democratic Presidential primary can't then vote in a local GOP primary later in the same year or vice versa.

An even better (albeit totally unrealistic) scheme would be to have all wide open primaries with the intent of winnowing down the field to two candidates of either party (yes, you could have two Dems or two Republicans running side by side) who would then run off in the general election with each picking their VP nominees after the primary process has finished. Kinda the way the founders originally intended it.

[dinsbait]But hey, why invoke the Constitution now?[/dinsbait]

Virginia simply had a ballot with all the candidates on it. You picked one, that's it.
