This ought to help in Western PA.

Dan Rooney is as close to a deity as one can get in Western PA. If you don't think his endorsement will have a positive effect on the Obama campaign, then you're on crack.

I'd say this doesn't look too promising:
McCain leads Obama 48-39 and leads Clinton 50-37.

If McCain were to lose North Carolina this fall, you might just as well brace yourself for 20 years of Democratic rule.
BTW: Hillary was speaking in Western PA today and got herself booed for trying to make hay out of the "bitter" comments.
Meanwhile Obama's Gallup numbers are holding.

I can't wait to see McCain matched up against Obama straight up. Then those numbers you posted might mean something.

I'm sure Obungle can manage to alienate that remainder with a couple more whistlestops and a Rev. Wright sermon or two. Not that anybody gives a fuck about North Carolina anyway.
Dan Rooney must be very influential in NC too

As a Western Pennsylvanian, I have to admit - Dan Rooney is not a god-like figure to me.
I think that Obama has a lot of support here, and that support is growing. Ed Rendell is a political powerhouse in PA, and he has set the tone for a lot of the state's lesser pols with his strong endorsement of Hillary. However, the real excitement seems to be in Obama's camp.
PA will go for the Democrat in this election - the only question will be, which one? Personally, I see McCain's candidacy as an admission on the part of Republicans that they cannot win this election, i.e. the one that follows the Bush years. McCain is not an energizing force in the R party, at his age, he cannot be. He is doomed to be an also-ran, while the GOP bides its time. There are several shitstorms soon to ensue that it will be nice for them to avoid...expect them to pin it on the Dem President, or at least try.

OK, what about Franco? Or The Bus?
Here we go!

Do I respect Franco and Jerome? Yes, as football players.
My point is that Dan Rooney is the owner of the Steelers...and at that, by virtue of his birth. His relevance ends there. Does the Pittsburgh community hold its breath for Rooney's thoughts on...anything aside from the administration of his football team? No, unless their attachment to the region goes no further than their steeler fandom.
I see no reason whatsoever to recognize Dan Rooney as an overly important voice in the community. If he had proven himself one over the years, fine...but he hasn't.
