“We're keeping the water clear and informing people that they shouldn't be in the water,” Chapman said. “A couple people have chosen to go in the water and surf at Swami's and one at Beacons, against our advice.”
There's a shark in the water, brah...let's go surfing! - surfer dopes

Excellent logic. :meds: Clearly they haven't seen "Deep Blue Sea". Coulda been one of those super-brilliant sharks with a massive brain!

So a shark darwins a guy swimming alone 150 yards offshore, and they close the beach? Yep, good thinking.

Normally I'm hardly one to defend the reactionary decisions of a governmental agency, but since they don't know what kind of shark it was (and many shark attacks take place in waist deep water or closer to shore) and don't know whether it was going north, south or out to sea, they made the right call.

Well that's just fucking great. Used to be all you had to worry about from the water around here was hepatitis.
Now they've got sharks too?

:x

The timing couldn't have been better, either. Supposed to be a heat wave here this weekend.
I can just imagine Roy Scheider running around the beach in Del Mar trying to keep everyone out of the water.

“Those are signs that say this isn't the place to go,” Chapman said. “We have one person fatally wounded and we have sea life exiting the water. It's better to say out of the water and give it time.”
